If it works with a wifi hotspot, Netzero offers one for $50 that comes with 200MB/month free.

Wait! You mean the Apps that Entune provides don't display on the Nav screen but only on your smart phone?

I think he means just have the radio screen work as a monitor to display Android or IOS. In other words there would be no computer in the radio, it would just do its radio functions and work as a display for the Phone.

I don't know if there is one, but perhaps someone could start an online bug database (e.g. Bugzilla or something like that) which folks could enter bugs and feature requests into. At least that's something we could point Toyota to.

Prius does provide Nav and phone capability
Buy a dedicated GPS that includes Traffic services but I think you need a subscription there also.

It displays on the NAV screen. However, there is also an Entune App for iPhone & Android that will also display the same info on your smartphone if you are away from your car.

I've never been able to get entune to link, but the bluetooth works great. Even talk to siri after i hold down the button on the phone. (iPhone 5) - I guess they (AT&T) want me to pay the $50 dollar a month rate to have a hotspot for the phone and a lot of data I'll never use. Can't find anything in the toyota literature about needing a hot spot?? Left a message with toyota and they sent back a nice "oh well" !!

You can plug the phone into the USB port, and Entune will work via the USB connection and the Entune iPhone App running on the iPhone. Sadly, it seems the only way to get Entune to work wirelessly on the iPhone is to turn on the hotspot feature on the iPhone. For some reason, Android phones have no problem connecting wireless, hotspot or not hotspot.

Very specific reason. Apple is protecting ATT and Verizon's hotspot business.

Having gotten the Hotspot, it has turned out to have a lot of other uses, watching my NFL ticket football games anywhere is one of them. Saving $200 on my iPad is another. Working broadband when power goes out is another. Broadband where ever I go is a plus. The "Free Wifi's" tend to be slow in comparison and many are restricted and there is always the privacy and security issues.

I've settled down on this subject. Not using Entune at all. Got Verizon's mobile wi-fi hot spot for data only so the iPad is all set. And for making very rare phone calls out I continue to use my TracFone through Bluetooth which works great too.

Interesting that I also got Verizon's Mobile Home Phone Connect. I'm moving my land line phone number and cancelling that local service for about $15 per month less and will have the same phone number service traveling with me with unlimited calling local and long distance throughout the U.S. At home I'll continue to use the same cordless phone set I have now and while traveling take an old wired handset requiring no batteries or plug in to 110.

Will the 2013 Prius at least have a good entune update or will it just be the same thing?

An interesting question. I have read that Toyota has made no changes to the 2013 Prius PiP. One would like to think that if Entune were updated that that update would apply equally to the 2012 too. One thing to consider where there are differences and where those same differences would apply between 2012 and 2013 are whether to get the Base or the Advanced PiP--and whether you want to afford those differences.

Question: Are GPS updates done through Entune even though or regardless of whether you use Entune or if it is 'active'?

I have not registered my Entune account. Should I even if I am not going to use any of its features? If I don't register Entune online for my PiP will I still get GPS updates automagically or not?

One of my already documented gripes with Toyota directly is that there is apparently no way the Base PiP can see what the update status is of the GPS and supposedly (as I have been told by Toyota) the Advanced lets you see this info. It is these little things about Toyota's attitude that just drives me crazy.

I know Sprint and Verizon block wifi hotspot on Android phones. You have to root your Android phone to open up access to it.

I sounded off in an earlier thread about Entune, but here's my two cents anyway. I've found it works best when I don't use it at all, and when it has been uninstalled from my Android phone.:D

Same with iPhones, you can break the software and get the hotspot tethering for free.

GPS updates are $150 and done via a DVD I believe.

Who would pay $150 for an update to a crappy car nav system? If it was so out of date, I'd spend that money on a nice Garmin and get great GPS and traffice.
