I just called my dealer to get the latest Navigation software for my 2010 Prius; v12.1 is now ready. They were a bit behind on the release, apparently, since it should have been out sometime mid-September.

It cost $183 including tax, and since the version I have now is 8.1 or something like that, I figured this was a worthwhile upgrade. According to them, it will take 7-10 business days to arrive.

    Glad I'm doing it, though.

I don't know why they charge for the SW upgrade. Garmin only charges for the maps, SW updates are free.

It's an entirely new DVD. Probably includes both maps and software.

Unless it allows use while the vehicle is in motion, I'm not really interested. ;)

I hate paying for these updates, they cost more than aftermarket GPS systems. Luckily so far the Prius has gotten me everywhere I need to go. I'm sure it's the original 2010 disc though.

What if you just purchased a new Prius a couple of months ago? Do they provide free updates for the first 90 days or 1 year?

Ridiculous to charge that kind of money. I gave up on the prius gps system a week after I got my new prius. I'm using an after market gps. Works better and it is a LOT cheaper. Updates are free.

No. The only time I have had heard of anyone getting a free update is if they negotiated it before purchasing.

How does one check which version they have? I haven't been able to figure it out. I know how to figure out which version of entune I have but not which nav version I have...

I agree with those who say the price is ridiculous and that a free-standing Garmin - even the $99 unit - works much better. I use my screen only for phones, XM radio and the backup camera.

Entune versions would likely use something different than this particular update. I imagine the OP is talking about the Gen 6 unit (2010-2011). I updated at the 10.1 mark from 8.1 (May 2009 delivery was too early for 9.1), and may consider this update as 10.1 hasn't been good for Bluetooth Audio w/ my stock Android phone (Nexus S).
