Is the passenger airbag light always supposed to be lit to indicate either ON or OFF status.

It lights up to indicate ON when someone is sitting in the front passenger seat and it indicates OFF when the seat is empty. Does it ever just go off?

It's always either ON or OFF depending on if you have a passenger. It's kind of aggravating in a way, but I guess you eventually get used to it.

A permanent nag light - good thing the kids have a lot of stickers.

Yeah, it's a weird light for sure. Seems like it could have been designed better. I have gotten used to it though!

It's just the explaining to others who drive the car solo that they are not going to die a horrible bone crushing, gut splattering death because the airbags are off. I tell them it's just a "no butt light" for the front passenger seat.

Their usual reply: "that's weird, it turns off after a few seconds on my car."

My usual reply" "dumb-nice person smart car."

I hate that light too, how annoying!
I am thinking of covering it with black tape.

It drove me nuts for the first few weeks. Now I don't even notice it.

I did mention this in my satisfaction survey- its a lot of real estate for a warning light that I can't do anything about... (eg. can't take any action on it so why warn me?). Annoying.

Must be a US legal thing... no warning light here.

That passenger airbag light it probably the single most annoying "feature" of this car. The only time a light should be showing is if there's a fault, not a normal operating condition. I'll be fixing those lights whenever I get around to it. At the very least I'll change the LED current-limiting resistors to something huge like 10MOhm, or black paint/tape over the LEDs, or just de-populate the LEDs entirely.

I've also considered tinting that entire "dummy light" section, as none of them are particularly helpful, save knowing if I still have the cruise control on. I find the cruise "set" light I find amusingly obvious. Alas, I digress...

I've had my C for two weeks and its driving me nuts. I think if enough of us hit up Toyota they can maybe do an update to the software to only turn on when a person is detected in the passenger seat

The menu system is the single most annoying feature to me.
The other buttons on the steering wheel could be used as a back or forward button. Instead they made 1 button basically to navigate everything.

I don't mind the button layout & screen layout. Hope some R&D Prius guys peek into these forum, I would like to give them some feedback. Just a little tweak here and there, and it will be a kick nice person layout.

That can be a tough thing to do at night when the absurdly bright light is piercing your eyes. Just sayin'.

No, not a legal thing here but I think Toyota is a bit gunshy right now and maybe going a bit overboard to avoid any future issues. I think I signed as much paperwork and heard more about NOT. MESSING. WITH. THE. FLOOR. MATS. as I did on nice features of the car

I would not mind the airbag light nearly so much if they had made it a different color. I associate red/orange as DANGER WARNING lights in a car... had they made it blue or white or even yellow, I don't think people would complain so much.

Agreed. Also, it would be nice if it would DIM when the headlights go on - it doesn't and it totally draws my eye when driving at night.

It really does not bother me at all. Never has. That said, I haven't really driven it in the dark much yet. We'll see if my opinion changes when it's dark every night when I leave work.
