I have not had an issue yet with plug in protocol plesantries or maybe "big oil" trying to thumb the common man. That is messed up but you did the right thing.
Years ago I sold cars. One day this woman came on to the lot looking for a '96 to'99 firebird with 40 to 60 thousand miles. We had one and she began to ask about factory installed options. She was sharp, articulate and knowledgeable about cars and what she wanted. She asked for financing. We sat down to start the paperwork, she took off her jacket, she had a name tag on, it read "The Sidheadra" , I asked her what that meant. She looked at me like I was clearly out of touch with reality....and said " I am the leader of the free world". Ok I though maybe I am out of touch, she began to take out all her financial documents. Several sheets of paper taped together. All the spaces were filled with numbers. I asked her what it was and she said it was her salary. Needless to say we could not get in touch with her employer so she did not get the loan.
Before this happened I would have confronted anyone, after this happened, I make a conscious decision to choose my battles, because there are people that live in a different realities and you don't know what response you will get for a simple question.

Yup, considering the 37 MPG premium gas engine. The impact really depends on the owner's usage. If both owners have 11 miles one way commute, the loss opportunity is the same.

 

Not really accurate. If they owners have 11miles one way commute the PHV lost the opportunity to avoid gas.. the Volt would have made it home without gas either way. (and the Volt owner would likely not charge unless it was free).

 

Carwings does the same for the Leaf. You can get SMS or email (my choice). It's only happened once - while at work. I work with a bunch of crack pot clowns, so I expected it at least once. Once was all it's been so far . . . within the past 19 months. But ... If I'd have been in john1701a's shoes ... and if I'd caught the person ... at 220lb/6'-5" ... I might have wanted to handle it differently. Lucky for me I'm taking my med's.

On the milder hand, I use evnut's "courtesy charger protocol" placard that he provides on the evnut.com website. It gives permission for other folks in need of juice (in particular, 100% EV's). When you use a courtesy charging placard, you simply move the placard's paper clip over to the hour that it's ok to unplug you. BUT ... if it's NOT ok to unplug me, all you have to do (especially on the chargepoint network) is run a small combination luggage lock through the EVSE hole on top ... that way it can't be unlocked. End of monkey business. I think I'll provide a picture:

 

Maybe a built in taser on the plug cable, which is activated if cable is removed by anyone but the card holder,prior to charge being completed. Then you come back and find the wire and the dope both lying on the ground.
