For all of you newbies from NY (me included) don't forget to get your Green Pass from EZ Pass for a 10% discount.

The green pass from port authority is more useful for me. The toll is only $4 for off-peak.

Does this require a monthly fee? I only use I-90 once every few months or so, but wouldn't mind having this assuming I only get charged when I use it. Thanks for the tip either way!

USB, if you already have an EZ-Pass and you get the port authority green pass, do you keep your current pass and they integrate it with the green discounts? Or do you have to get a green pass in addition to your current pass? Thanks!

Electric Charge, AFAIK, there is no monthly charge. But, because I was told probably by misinformed people that getting a green pass would leave me with a regular white ez pass and a green one to swap out to, I gave up on getting one years back.

I looked into this when I bought my C, and as far as I can tell there's no integration between the different E-ZPass programs. And I believe you can have only one transponder, so you can't take advantage of both the Thruway and the Port Authority discounts.

I considered giving up my MTA E-ZPass and getting the Port Authority one instead, so checked into the details. The discount is $3.50 on off-peak tolls only, and off-peak is weekdays 10am to 4pm and after 8pm, weekends before 11am and after 9pm, which rules out most of the times I use those crossings. And the Port Authority has a $1 a month account fee, while MTA has no monthly charge.

    Port Authority toll info.
    Port Authority account charges.

Thruway Green Pass info, including list of eligible vehicles.

They really need to get their act together and have a single green car tag for all the E-ZPass systems.

Well the Port Authority one is all I would ever really make use of, so you are under the impression that if I currently have a 'regular white ez pass' and become a green pass member they integrate it onto my account without the need for a 2nd 'unit', right ftl? Also, they (the Port Authority) would charge a monthly $1.00 fee, which honestly is reasonable. Stupid to charge, yes, but reasonable considering the $3.50 saving one those dinky Staten Island/NJ crossings IMO. Thanks!

You'll have to turn in the white pass to get the green pass. That's what I had to do back in 2006, anyway.

The green pass tag is really green (in color).

Ahh, ok, so they'll integrate it with my current account No. but take one pass back and issue another (if it still works like back in 06'). Now I'm getting it, lol. Thatnks all for the info. It's amazing, I inquired about this 2 maybe 3x over several years with customer service and it seemed each time the reps just didn't know squat about how it worked. I know I was told it would require two account No.'s which would require two separate passes for me to swap out but now I'm thinking they may have been talking about a non port authority one which is the one I will specify next time I call. Again, thanks all!

There was nothing in the site that said you had to return the pass. I have a plate mount that I last used in 2009 on a demo that I was driving. Prior to that, I had last used it in 2004 and when I went through the ez pass lane then it told me to call in. I mounted it on my PHV last month and I was waiting for the lights to go off and they never did. When I went to the EZpass website to update, it did not ask me which cars had which tags like it did in 2009. So, I am thinking that the green pass will just be another pass on the account. If not, the Liverpool service center is on my way home from here.

I brought in my old white tag to the EZ-Pass office to get a green tag. Filled out the forms, etc... They took my white tag and I had to wait for the green tag in the mail. I remember having no tag for about a week.

Ouch. Crossing the Verrazano weekly living in S.I. without an ezpass is a hit in the, err, rearend. It amazes me they cannot make this a simple change in the computer to an existing account still to this day honestly...

I'll still try and give a call tomorrow to see if they are now better versed at the port authority concerning this. Thanks again all. :)

Too bad they cannot consolidate. You are also missing NJ green discounts and for DC Beltway we'd have to get a EZ Pass flex transponder with a switch to turn off the toll if 3 are in vehicle. God knows I paid my fair share for Verrazano bridge tolls but we don't get over to NY as much now. I wonder if some people have like 4 or 5 EZ Passes for this reason. I know some people with two - one for NJ and one for an MD bridge.

I'm in the same situation than USB; I had to surrender my regular transponder after receiving my green one. I'm talking 2007_ish. I do use it several times a year and I'm being charge a low monthly maintenance fee.

Check with EZpass. I have 4 of them and one is somewhere in the house but I have not been asked to turn one in except when they recently sent out replacements for two of them.
