Den, you already started a thread. Did you even go back and read it?

It is very likely that the problem is the weather. Battery range is effected by battery temp (and terrain and techique).
When its cold the chemistry of the battery is slower and it produces less energy. LiIon can vary 30% in usable energy from when its hot (high temps in the 90's give more range) do cold temps like 32F. Even moderately cooler temps like 50s can cut into range a lot.

Stop feeding the monkeys drinnovation! Once one knows you have food, they all come. They need to find the food on their own.

But misinformation must be answered. If he refuses to respond to people looking to help, he very well may be a troll. But we can't leave that hanging, unsuspecting folks new to the site or thread may not know better.

Troll is the label given for someone from the outside.

What is the term for a well known forum member intentionally stirring trouble?

The big GM forum was plagued with that problem. It got ugly too, since some of their own members from within were the source. That harms the forum's reputation. It misleads innocent members & readers too... causing them to become greenwashers when they unknowingly spread incorrect info from a person they assumed wouldn't ever do provide it.

First, Den Hare has two posts, registered yesterday, and has not responded to anyone trying to help him.

Second, someone that posts simply to get a rise out of people, especially with falsehoods, and not willing to actually converse, I would label as a troll. It has nothing to do with "insiders" or "outsiders".

That's the catch, they are willing. In fact, they actively engage in discussions.

Trouble is, they are horribly vague... hence this topic.

By us providing that missing detail here, the misrepresentations are revealed.

I'm sorry if you feel my defending the PHV and explaining that temperature can effect Li-ion batteries is somehow feeding the monkeys (whatever that means). Personally I feel if people want to come to PriusChat to get answers about the PHV... we should answers. This is the place to find good PHV info/food. I avoid obvious trolling.. but this is a real question and a common one. And many people here seem to blame it on poster not understanding projected range vs real range, but the post says range, not projected range. That suggests than physical issues such as temp impact on battery. Many of the replies/posts defend the prius by attacking the poster -- often not a very helpful technique.

@ john1701a.. stop being vauge and making up vague acuscations about other sites/people. Be specific or you are being as bad or worse then those you say are being misleading.

The Prius PHV is a very good car, and when people don't get it, we should help them understand. Letting misrepresentations persist is exactly the opposite of what this thread is all about.

I did see after my original post. Does not mean my post was in anyway inappropriate. I don't track all threads and saw this post before that new thread.

Making a full thread is far more agressive, and closer to trolling. But that does mean the post here did not deserve a reasonable analysis. Also when people are un happy they look for a place to vent, so have more emotions in their posts. If the moderators want to delete his threads/posts as trolling that is their choice.

The purpose is to prevent the misleading from happening again by sticking to the topic itself, not to stir up discussions no longer in context sighting those who eventually abandoned their effort when detail prevailed. Don't forget about the crosstalk, when multiple posts happen throughout an event on multiple threads... making the intent far more difficult to follow and it very easy to be mislead.

What topics haven't been addressed yet?

I am not sure but I think that I am the first person n Iowa to purchase a pip. I am definitely the first person in the Davenport area to get one. I just received it 2 days ago and am elated! Day one, I did not have time to fully charge it but still got over 100MPG. Day 2, I fully charged it overnight and again mid-afternoon (partial charge). Drove 48 miles and averaged 86 MPG. I started out with a 2006 Prius and had over 170,000 miles on it with NO problems except replacing the front wheel bearing assemblies at around the 100,000 mile mark. I hope I have similar luck with my plug-in.
