Should I trade my prius for a plug in?

    just go to buyatoyota.com and punch in different zip codes. that's how i found out that oregon had a better deal.

    I saw up to $5000 of in VA, MD, MA whereas MA mentions $3500 for reg PiP $5000 for PiPA
    How about move to WVa and get $7500 off from state.
    The states with bigger discounts have no state incentives is the only thing I can see

    I just talked to a dealer in VA (the closest pip dealer to me here in western KY)

    He said the cash back and other incentives are based on the state in which you license the car, not the state in which you purchase the car.

    Is that right?

    Then flying to Boston or anywhere else for that matter would be of no benefit.

    That dealer doesn't want your business. Find someone else.
    I had a dealer in Eugene tell me the same thing. Two other dealers in Oregon didn't seem to agree. I bought the car from one of them :)

    I did, I called another one in TN that happened to have a plug in and they know nothing of $3500 toyota cash back.

    I'm having trouble even finding a deal like those in the other thread.

    You just might have to go further out. Take a look at the spreadsheet I put together here: Price Paid on PIP? | Page 9 | PriusChat
    Also, I highly suggest searching inventory on buyatoyota.com and contacting dealers through that. This way you have everything in writing and they can't play dumb once you get to the dealership.

    When I first checked, the salesman told me the $3500 was only on a lease. I told him I would only be too happy to show him on Toyota's website. :D

    No way... I mentioned the other thread...
    Check with Fitzgerald Toyota in MD or Koons Toyota in Tysons Corner VA
    another Prius Chat member had these two dealers bidding.
    He went there to get it on Monday from Florida in the middle of Frankenstorm's wrath.
    If you need more hints PM me. I believe the other fellow (or gal) put his/her request on Internet and several dealers took up the cause.

    Well I have been going over the numbers & the differences with my wife if we trade in our 10 Prius III for a 12 PiP Base. I've been talking with several dealersHere is the breakdown but I will owe a little more than $25k after all is said & done with the additional $2500 tax credit.

    MSRP $33240
    -Discount $2500
    -Rebate $2000
    - Trade $19500
    + Payoff $15000
    = $24240 + TTL

    Payment $424.92 x 60 months

    Pros - Better MPG

    Cons - More expensive, no solar sunroof, smaller NAV screen, have to spend around $800+ for tint and a full clear bra on the new PiP, stereo is not as good as the JBL in the 2010 & I would have to remove the springs, RSB, Tanabe FSB & chassis braces to reinstall on the PiP. :mad:

    After looking at all the facts we decided to just keep our 2010 for now. Maybe when the next gen comes out we will look at what that has to offer but for now it seems silly to spend all the extra money for a little better mpg & lose all of the other nicer features on our 2010 Prius III. I was excited to do it but it doesn't make sense at this point, I guess I'll just have to be happy with 50 mpg for now. ;)

    That's not right as the dealer that you are buying the car from is including the discount when they do the paperwork. The only thing that may be good only for your state would be any state rebates/incentives.

    Sounds like a very level-headed and well-reasoned decision! :) but in a few months I might want to talk to you about those suspension upgrades ;)

    "Super" decision...
    can you clarify there is $2500 Fed Tax credit was that included? ("Discount" above I guess)
    What does WA state do for incentives? Squats you seem to imply....bummer.

    Nope, the 2500 is a discount from the dealer. So he would still be able to take the 2500 federal credit.
    yes, no WA state incentives.

    I just got an email that said, "The price includes rebate for qualified customers with credit score 690 and higher..."

    Does that sound right?

    yeah, 690 sounds reasonable. these are only available to Tier 1 and Tier 1+, the two highest tiers.

    my score was 701 and I was able to get the deal…

    The $2500 federal tax credit was in addition to the above numbers since it wasn't part of the deal today. The discount was from the dealer. They would only give me $19500 on my trade though compared to KBB saying it was $20499. They said that they couldn't go any higher so I wasn't willing to lose another $1k on the deal too. We

    We drove into town tonight to go to a movie & I'm much happier with the larger 7" screen & better sound from my current JBL/NAV system. I also enjoy having the sunshade open on the sunroof even when it's raining letting more light through. I would love to have a plug-in with the same features that I have now. I guess I may have to look at conversion systems. HAve any of those prices come down & become more reliable?

    Is that KBB the trade in value or retail sale? Cause if the latter, that's a pretty good deal IMHO.
    Re: roof and audio, I totally hear ya. The sunroof was especially a big bummer for me. But I can see myself upgrading the audio in the next six months myself and maybe once summer is a little closer, research shops that could cut a sunroof for me. We'll see…
