I am thinking of installing/mounting some time of camera to record my driving incase of an accident or police injustice. I am considering some type of mounting/tripod,(small) facing forward on my prius c -3. Has anyone done this before? My first thought is getting the go pro 3 black edition when it comes out. Id love to hear what anyone else has done.

There are a bunch out there that will mount to your windshield.

Oh, on the GoPro. The problem is you need to turn it on every time. The true dash cams can get GPS location, speed and more data as well as be fully functional with out you needed to start it every time you start your car

You can hide the wire. I am looking at installing one soon on my C4

The Go Pro 3 has a remote I can enable with my iphone. I could possibly mount it somewhere and hit record before I drive which is not a big deal for me. Dopey5007, let me know when you finish your install. I am very curious on what you use. I am not a skilled mechanic and I would not want to install anything wired for sure.

I am so tapped right now from buying my C4 (went from no car to the C4 + gas + Insurance)

The GoPro lacks features dash cams have.

A true dash cam will have GPS location and speed embedded in the video.

Don't get me wrong, I love the gopro line. I have a Hero2 I got last December and want the 3. But as a daily dash cam, it would get annoying to start it every time. I am looking for the camera I was looking at. When I find it I will post the link

Thank you Dopey5007. I look forward to seeing what you get. I am open to other ideas. I like the idea of the go pro so I can use it for shooting other stuff as well.

My new cam just came in!
Mini DVR 808 #16 V2 -Lens D Car Key Chain Micro Camera HD 720P Pocket Camcorder

Overall the picture quality is awesome, it shoots 720p which is acceptable quality for the size of the cam, its basically a fake car key fob. I'm using a 8 gig card right now and the battery seems to be listed as 45 mins only.

15 mins of recording is about 1 gig.

The only draw back is battery life, but it allows me to record my rides to work and small trips. I could buy a external cig. lighter plugin for extended battery life.

    Not bad for $40.
