    Hi all,

I'm a newbie to this forum. it's been super helpful. I'm about to trade in a 2009 BMW 328i for a prius. The offer I am looking at is:

2012 Prius Three, with Solar Roof, in Blizzard Pearl for $25,488. I live in Northern California, Sacramento. MSRP is $28,305. Is this a good deal? I'm a little nervous about it, but also pumped. I think it's a decent deal at $2,817 below MSRP. Should I pounce on it or try to negotiate more off?

    Thanks so much,
    Marc

    wow - sorry. I'm a serious newbie.

I'm starting a new job. In my old job, I worked from home and only put ~1,500 miles/year on bimmer. The new job is 55 miles each way or 110 miles round trip. I believe the regular prius is a better fit for my commute. i'm guessing the pip uses less gas if your commute is all city driving and less than 20 miles round trip...

After Federal & CA rebates, my base Plug-in Prius is $25,800 purchased in the Bay Area. That's only $300 more than your three. Both are optioned similarly. I also get HOV carpool access. My commute is 107 miles roundtrip. Work recently allowed charging for my PiP so fuel economy will soon go to 90 mpg. But even one way charging at home gave me 75 mpg. Electricity costs have gone up $1 a day so far. Had the car less than a month.

So without rebates your were are 29,800? and then you collect $4k at tax time in April?

And is that with ttf, etc. or without?

So I'm trying to figure out the CVRP thing. How can I tell if there is enough rebate money left to ensure that I get my rebate? Looks like it's first come, first served, but unclear whether if I buy tomorrow and submit my application whether there is currently funding for it. I thought CA state government was brokey broke!

    What dealership did you use?

Was the car you bought a 1x an internet special or do they have more PIPs priced like the one you bought?

I bought from Palo Alto Toyota. There were two "at this price" but it doesn't matter. I've already seen a couple posts from people who did better than me. If you're willing to go out of state you get even more rebates. The price I quoted is minus the ca, federal, and Toyota rebates so that is directly comparable to your price. Out the door price is $32,800 written on my contract. After the ca and federal rebates, I am at $28,800. 0 down and 0% financing means this is all I am paying. The only thing they dinged me for is the floor mats. But I refused everything else, extended warranty, prepaid maintenance, VIN etchin, etc.

CA rebate is a $1500 check hopefully in the mail. The $2500 federal is tax credit in April. Unless you're one of the 47% who don't pay taxes, you should qualify. You'll have to check that one on your own.

    Hi Marc!
Are you trading in the BMW at the dealership? How much are they giving you for it?

Try putting it up for sale yourself and try taking it to a few car dealers (new and used), esp. BMW dealers.

I sold my former 350Z to a Nissan dealer in Seattle. I put it up on Craig's List and got little response. One was an ok offer from a used car dealer. I took it to two Nissan dealers. One gave me a joke of an offer and the other a surprisingly good offer (more than what I was advertising for on CL, which they didn't know about).
