For years and years I've been dreaming about one day owning a prius. Unfortunately it took totaling my old car (a jeep patriot) in a very scary accident for me to be able to afford one. I came out of the accident with none other than whiplash though so I am very lucky, and I was able to take the check from my insurance company directly to the Toyota dealership since I already knew exactly what I wanted. I love my fancy new prius 3! (Photo attached)

That's a tough way to get one, but congrats on the new Prius.

Welcome aboard Hila ...you will like the Prius...and if you keep it for many years, if you ever need a new battery, there is a place in NC called Re-Involt that replaces Hybrid batteries. So you are covered.

PS- You have excellent taste re: color of car

Oh thanks for the referral to re-involt. I'll keep it bookmarked, and they're not located too far from Raleigh either.

Yeah it's a tough way to get a new car, but I look at it as a silver lining.

    Congrats!!

I also have been trying to find ways to finaggle my way into a Prius for years. I finally bought mine this past September and am loving it :)

Glad you walked away from the crash in one piece! You'll be glad to hear the Prius has great crash test ratings.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I am loving every minute I spend in this new little beauty. It's raining today though so it's getting all dirty :(

No problem, the BP hides the dirt well.

Wow, I guess if the BP still looks that sharp in the Alaskan weather then I have nothing to worry about! It looks great in the snow!! :)

Congratulations! Enjoy the ride - I am loving mine!!!!

My "owning a Prius" moment happened two years ago when I saw one of the earlier greens (not the Sea Glass Pearl I have) with a CT license plate on it when I lived in upstate NY and I loved the look. As my marriage was on the rocks back then I took that as a sign - I now have a green Prius with the CT license plates! As a famous comedian says, "There's your sign.":D

Driving habits I am not sure about - am learning the "pulse and glide' technique but am not good at it - I watch the road and the one gauge that shows when the electric motor is working (I am a newbie and do not understand the whole synergy system - my brother is a car person and I wanted to check the oil so I opened the hood and he was like "Wow!" He has taken apart and rebuilt his own Camaros so he knows those kind of engines). Never had a car before that "talked" to me about what the engine was doing....

I do slow, easy braking so get a lot of regenerative action and even during some of the glides there is some regenerative force pulsing lines to the big battery. Kind of like the "flux capacitor" in "Back to the Future...." :D

Yesterday averaged 58.2 to 62.1 and I had a lot of city traveling in areas I didn't know... had one day where on 1 10 mile trip the dashboard trip said 99.2 mpg (I was having a horrible day and blamed it on the car feeling for me) and Fuelly said 92 something and since both were "high" at the same time I cannot explain it. I have a pad of paper to record all the odometer readings accurately and we have a grocery store that gives points off gallons of fuel at Shell stations - (saved 50 cents per gallon on one trip fueling my diesel truck - that was fun).... yesterday's fuel up was filling the tank from half and it was $20.30 and I am loving that versus the $80+ to fill the diesel.

20 miles per day... pulse & glide unless I have some *** on my bumper and some hills to take advantage of gliding down although the trip up makes me nervous about the reading. I have a split down the middle of the city and rural driving. I can't explain it... the car and Fuelly seem to be working together.
