    What affect would running winter tires during the summer have, other than worse fuel economy? (thinking of my truck not the Prius) ;)

    ^ Snow tires tend to wear fast through hot summers. Their rubber formulation is softer, and maybe too soft in summer temps? I've noticed a few cars with them though.

    This is correct. They would wear out very quickly and could chunk apart in very high temps.

    No, I got rid of the snow tires on the Prius this season because we moved to a location that barely gets any snow. I am just saying you will still get stuck with the snow tires due to the fact that you can't spin the tires at all, going up steep hill from a slow crawl is a huge issue.

    I have snow tires on my other cars as I live in an area that gets more snow.
