From what I've been able to gather there is a proclivity in the 2004-2007 Prii for the emergency brake light switch to break resulting in the dash brake light staying on endlessly. Here is a diagram on page 4 (Powered by Google Docs) of the emergency brake system with the switch labelled and here is a picture of the switch itself (RockAuto Parts Catalog). I've located my switch and found that one of the plastic side pins is broken off and the whole thing is swiveling around. The problem is that I can't figure out how to get it off so I can replace it with a new one. I don't want to go to the mechanic for something like this. Has anybody else had this problem and/or figured out how to fix it? Thanks.

Also, some of the information I've seen says that I need to replace the entire emergency brake pedal assembly. That could run several hundred dollars and I'm not prepared to do that just so a silly light will go off.

Thanks, but that's the entire brake pedal assembly. The part that's broken is just a tiny piece of plastic on that. I'd rather not replace the entire brake pedal. Also, I've already found where to purchase the switch for under $30. The problem is I just can't figure out how to remove the broken switch from my brake pedal assembly.

I haven't had to deal with this issue. However, referring to the exploded parts diagram, it depicts one screw holding the parking brake switch assembly to the bracket for the parking brake. Can you find and remove that screw??

You're absolutely right. I was able to get the screw out and take off the switch. I might have a problem placing a new switch in though because this is all in a very tight space and I don't know how I'll be able to tighten the screw. I might end up having to take the entire pedal off. Thanks though. That helped.
