I hope they give frequent flyer miles where you buy oil and filters.

We buy new vehicles every 5 or 6 years and they get a max of 5k miles a year each. A oil change once a year that way x5 vehicles isn't much oil :)

Park it at a seedy neighborhood at night, leave your wallet on the dashboard and it will get broken in, without your own effort.

On the way home, I ran a series of 10 mile, benchmarks, both directions, at different speeds to measure the MPG vs. mph. I finished the high-speed, 75 mph, ones two days later.

Put enough money in that wallet an I'll break it in for you, myself.

5,000 mile oil change for harsh conditions is also recommended. Harsh can be a dusty environment or long idle times. Today's synthitic oil can go the distance. Also keep in mind the engine I not running when the EV is on so the wear and tear is less. Do what makes you comfortable.

Better question is, did they upsell you and made you pay for the oil at 5K, or did they cover it under ToyotaCare?

I can't give my Toyota Care away can I? I have no need for it as my vehicle only gets ~1k-5k miles per year put on it and no way can I leave it that long waiting to add up enough miles for a 10k mile oil change. I have to do 'em myself :)

Doubt it. You can try asking for them to just give your 5 QTs of oil and the filter. I doubt they will entertain the idea, I don't know if they will be able to bill Toyota this way, but you can try.

I remember the Sludge Scare. Prius is not one of those effected cars.

    Causes of Sludge

■Faulty head gasket, allowing coolant to leak into oil system
    ■Unburned gasoline contaminating oil
    ■Inadequate oil circulation
■Infrequent changes of oil and filter
    ■Poor quality or nondetergent oil
■Oxides of nitrogen from emissions system contaminate oil
■Engine runs too cool in spots, causing condensation buildup inside crankcase
■Engine runs too hot in spots, causing oil to break down faster
■Seal on oil filler cap fails, allowing moisture to enter engine through valve cover
■Too many short trips or frequent driving under adverse conditions

    Cars impacted.

I guess I'll never have a car in that category [IMG]

Sum people think I change my oil too often :)

Gentle for the 1st 600 miles, vary your speed and don't use the Cruise control, after 600 miles, just drive it .
