Exterior color / My red Prius is now pink!

maybe your paint is just oxidized? I bet a paint correction using a polish and then a wax/paint sealant would bring life back to your paint.

 

Red will deteriorate the most in the sun. For FL, the white is clearly the way to go with the tan interior.

 

My understanding is red absorbs the shorter wave length, higher energy parts of the light spectrum (closer to violet), to reflects the lower energy part (red), and gets damaged more than other colors.

 

Blizzard Pearl looks stellar in the sunlight, and shade, and clean, and even with bugs on her It'll also stay comfortable inside with dark tinted windows along with a solar roof.

My former 1991 Toyota pickup is still in town and I occasionally see it. Parts of it have gone from red to pink to, now, white.

 

Red has always been the color to fade the most, Blue is better. But I've never seen white paint fade. White is the most practical color for a car that is left outdoors in the sun. The interior will by cooler in a car with a white roof.

 

black is crazy to take care of but it looks boss when there are no swirl marks

 

Blue will heat up the interior almost as much as Black, I have to agree that for south Florida, white would be the best color, next maybe silver. IMHO

A hack job that a lot of Japanese import companies do is to tint their red clear coats so the base pigment for the red is not as expensive on the basecoat, I'm sure a claybar and a light polish with a DA will bring back the luster on your red Prius.

 

You could'a brought that car out to LA and turned it into a show car finish

Even up here in the often-gray Northeast, Toyota red fades fast, lot of "pink" 90's Toyotas running around. Other manufacturers' reds seem to have held up better to varying degrees.

Bring it into a shop that installs 3M Paint Protection Film. That clear film is a UV blocker and has a lifetime warranty against yellowing. It'll protect that very shiny spoiler. When I close my hatch, I only touch the chrome Toyota emblem so I can't scratch paint or spoiler. The emblem is replaceable if it gets dinged The other parts are expensive to repair The film will do the trick for you in that nice warm sunshine It can be installed on any surface you want to protect so look around the car and you will see lots of surfaces that the film can be used on

Almost forgot, yes wax as much as you want. It will only keep your car looking stellar looking. Blizzard Pearl looks amazing in sunlight.

There are two handles (slots in the plastic trim) on the inside of the hatch, for closing. I pull on one of those with enough force, then take my hand out, and let it swing close.

I prefer not to touch the exterior of the car when closing the hatch, the rear is always filthy, even just a day or two after washing.
