My reading of Freakonomics suggests that "Shi-TEED" is an urban myth.
On Kath and Kim (ABC TV Australia) while Kim was pregnant she considered names like "Tiramisu" and "Papilloma" before settling on Epponnee-Raelene Kathleen Darlene Charlene [Craig], shortened to Epponnee-Rae.

I have an unfair advantage, having lived in Hong Kong. I once met an Oral B Wong. And I did some work with an Ophelia Kok. You get used to the surname Kok in Hong Kong, but Ophelia was a deeply inappropriate choice of first name.

And the large law firm I worked in had two receptionists, called Coffee and Honey.

When I worked in the audio industry two of my customers were Darryl Dingler and Vincent Dangler.

We often thought of introducing them so they could start a law firm.

I worked at a telemarketing company back in college. One of that names on a lead card inspired the supervisor to call as she could not believe the name: Neva Diklik. For real.

She was a real person who answered the phone and chatted (she sounded "older" according to the supervisor) but she was not interested in the product we were marketing.

Also had a lady who called me during a stint in a medical billing office. With a 1976 birthday, her given name was Freedom...

Oh boy... almost as bad as a girl new to the service desk at a grocery store I worked at about twenty five years ago - some local college kids came in looking for their friend Mike Hunt and wanted him paged. The service girl did not get it until she made the third announcement and by then the college kids could not hold in their laughter and oh, the look of horror and embarrassment on her face... I am sure it has been done elsewhere...

The store manager was not too happy with the college kids but maybe that was their revenge for being under-aged kids unable to buy beer when their fake IDs were conviscated.

Probably a perfectly respectable name from another culture or language where it doesn't carry our baggage.

I just returned from a tour in India, where our guide had a proper and common Hindu given name of Parikshit. But with English speaking clients, he went by Pari (Perry).

In another English speaking country, they might also have asked to page Mr. Bates. Meaningless here, but embarrassing where that title is 'Master'.

A friend who is a family practitioner cared for a woman (from the US) who named her daughter Cloaca  because she "liked the way it sounded." For city folks (I am a hobby farmer), the cloaca is where everything comes out of a chicken.
