Do you have any way to have a mechanic connect an OBDII diagnostic code reader and tell you what the code indicates? If you can tell us what the diagnostic code is we can better help you.

A Check Engine Light is not as serious as a Red Triangle.

My guess would be that an electrical connector got wet. The OBDII code reader would help indicate what sensor is not working properly.

In the US most any auto mechanic can read the Check Engine Light for you. It does not have to be a dealer.

If it is more than just a CEL then it may require the dealer to diagnose with a Techstream computer.

It would help if you could determine the DTC logged by your engine ECU. However if it is not possible for you to obtain the DTC and you don't mind guessing about the cause, I would say the most likely reason is that rain water had dripped down from the windshield cowl area onto the engine valve cover. From there, water has gotten into one or more spark plug wells in the cylinder head.

To check that, you would have to remove the four spark igniters and use a mirror to look into each spark plug well. If you don't see any water, remove each spark plug and inspect for rust on the threads which would show that water was present.

Also inspect each spark igniter plastic body for cracking, burn marks or rust stains. If you see any problems then the igniter should be replaced.

If you find that water is the problem, you should use sealant on the vertical seam that runs along the middle of the windshield cowl black plastic to reduce the likelihood of a future water leak. Good luck.
