Did you get the PiP in march? If so, then we have a similar commute. What fuel economy are you getting?

That's not bad, I'm hoping to level out at 80 mpg with plugging at both ends of my 107 mile commute. I drive slow with the ECO on all the time. It's good to know that if I stomp on it, I can still get great fuel economy. I just might do that now that I received my HOV stickers. No reason to hang out in the slow lane anymore.

As of today, I've 17,525 miles on my pre-order PIP that was received from the dealership in March.

So far, no issues - the car runs like a top. At the rate I'm going, I'm probably going to put 25k miles/year on the car. Good thing it's a Toyota! :)

Just please don't be that Prius driver ... the one holding up traffic in the fast/carpool lanes and giving the rest of us a bad name. I know you're probably not that guy, but it's an epidemic down here. Going slow for mileage is admirable (I'll even cruise around 60 up a hill in the name of mileage), but keeping right of faster moving traffic is courteous and the law too.

Unfortunately it's not the law in California. Only a suggestion.

In CA, a carpool lane on the left does not count as a "fast" lane with respect to the "keep right" rule.

In my experience, it's not the Prius tree hungers slowing the hov, it's these dam trucks. All the gardeners. Who knew they needed to ride the freeway. I'm the Prius guy that flew by you ...

I'm no expert in CA traffic laws but my anecdote involves my friend in traffic school. He told me of a guy in the left lane getting a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic. He was going 65 in a 65 mph limit freewa and grumbling the whole Saturday about not belonging there. No, I won't be that Prius in the left lane but I am definitely that Prius in the right lane holding up traffic behind me. That's what a left lane is for: passing. Use it instead of high beaming me.

As am I. The other night some guy in an SUV comes flying up on me at 80+ mph while I'm in the slow lane going 65 or so with zero traffic around. He flashes his brights at me and proceeds to execute a road rage pass where he attempts to scare me into thinking he's going to clip me. Not being a total angel, I punch it to catch up to him with my brights on and proceed to follow him for a couple of miles shining my brights in his rear-view mirror. He tried slamming on his brakes but panicked when I didn't slow down and swerved at the last minute and gave me the finger. I know it wasn't right of me, but he made me really angry trying to pull that dangerous stunt for no reason.

Why in the world would you fly up on somebody in the right lane and flash your brights at them and get all pissed off when there are four open lanes to the left? I think he thought it was going to be an old lady or hippy and was surprised to find a shaved-head and biker goatee looking guy who was willing to give him a taste of his own medicine.

As a rule I don't advertise any personal information, opinions included. I don't even put my amateur radio call sign on anything other than over the air when required. Nobody needs that information.

You can get 2 cars traveling the same MPH one a Vette and a second a Prius, the Prius guy will get the bird from 9 out of 10 Bird flippers because everyone assumes they are impeding traffic. Fact is Prius drivers keep up fine with legal traffic limits.

Depends on where you are. Even if you're going 90 mph in the left lane, if you're blocking faster traffic you're breaking the law in California. Some people mistakenly believe that there's nothing illegal about camping in the passing lanes and driving slower than the flow of traffic as long as they're going the speed limit. In California they're wrong.

What? Dude there is no excuse to break the speed limit period. In California if you are in the Diamond Lane best to drive the speed limit and not tailgate the car in front of you. That is the law.

If you're in the carpool lane and traffic on the mainline is moving faster than you, you deserve every finger you get and then some. There's no reason to intentionally impede the flow of traffic when you can just as well travel at your comfortable speed in the right lanes. How do you feel so justified breaking one law to enforce another?
