Reflecting on a decade of GM efforts starting from the EV-1, when I first heard about this: GM has a hybrid secret worth stealing? Did GM steal hybrid secrets from someone else? Someone thought GM has a hybrid secret worth stealing? Sounds more like an insanity defense. I shouldn't be so skeptical about GM but the only secrets I think GM might have would be: CARB policy changes in 2000 Hydrogen fraud to kill Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles in 2001 Talking points for hybrid skeptics Hybrid skeptic funding CNW Marketing 'research' data in 2006 Rise and fall of the two-mode transmission 2007 EPA mileage update in 2008 Funding "Bell the Hybrid" lobby 2010 Bob Wilson
The software source code for the embedded MCU's have value in that they describe how all the systems inter-operate but that's about all. I see no evidence that they had this data. Everything else could have been reverse engineered from the production Volt, press releases, and patent filings. Were there any actual buyers?
They sold it before the volt was released. Industrial espionage is wrong even if they could copy it in other ways. Absolutely Really, I thought you would go old school and just shame them with tar and feathers. Me. If you get caught spying for a foreign country, you lose all your stuff and get deported plus some jail time. I don't think they would live as well in china.
