After nearly buying a Prius Plugin last week in NH with the intent of driving it to FL and shipping it to Puerto Rico, I instead purchased the first 2013 v wagon that my local dealer in Puerto Rico received. It was the blizzard pearl color which was the one me and my wife wanted. It’s been an intense 2 weeks of research, phone calls, research, driving to dealers, and more research. I’m glad it is finally over! And thank you Priuschat for the wealth of info!

I initially wanted a v, then changed to the Plug-in, then to a regular liftback, and finally came back full circle to the v. What made the decision very difficult between the lifback and the v was the huge MPG tradeoff for the extra space. It also didn’t help that I could not find a dealer that had both, so I never drove them back to back. When I was finally able to ride the both on the same day (at different dealers), the difference in comfort and space became very marked. It is worth mentioning that I’m 6’7”. My conundrum was that if we got the v instead of the liftback, then the new car would be the “family car” and I would not use it to commute. But then, 42 MPG combined is still very damn good so maybe I should use it to commute to justify buying it. But if I commute on the v, then my stay-at-home wife would need to continue to use her old inefficient car to take the kids to school. In the end, we decided that I will be commuting in the v. Now since this will also be the family car for weekends, I will quickly crank up the miles and justify the purchase.

As too why I decided to pass up on the insanely, crazy, stupefyingly good deal of $4,000 & 0% APR for the Plugin and ship it home? Well, two very good reasons:
    A) $.26/Kw-hr
    B) Plugin not on sale in Puerto Rico, which meant I did not know what to expect if I ran into warranty problems.

I wanted it badly, but there was simply now way to justify this purchase, even with the incredible offer. But it sure hurt having to pass this up.

Anyway I just wanted to add my name to the list of giddy Prii owners. This is my first hybrid so here’s to a healthy unlearning curve. Cheers.

Note to Priuschat: Currently the 2013 vehicles do not show up on the pull down in the user profile.

Some in California pay more per mile in a Plug-In Chevy Volt than those using a standard Prius. The reason is the high kw-hr charge. So it does make sense to do what you did at $.26/Kw-hr as long as you put the miles on the car. Short commutes favor a plug-in especially when it's $.11/Kw-hr or lower, which is typical in most parts of the US.

I'm 6'6 and also fit smashingly in the v. Can't justify one for a few years though. Gonna have to get by in my truck and liftback with the Extend My Seat brackets.

    Enjoy your new ride!
