My husband and I had a trailer hitch installed on our new Prius c. We got it at a place called Burnsville Trailer Hitch in Minnesota. They install all sorts of unique hitches onto different vehicles, and had one specifically for the c. It cost about $230. We were are able to use our Thule Bike rack, and attach our 2 mountain bikes. We drove over 1,000 miles from Minnesota to Colorado for vacation. With the back seats down and luggage loaded up in the back, plus the rack and two bikes, we had an average of 40mpg on the highway. Once we got to the mountains, we used a lot of power getting up and through the mountains, and used the "brake assistance" mode for coming down. We've really enjoyed putting this kind of bike rack on the car and just cruising around the city with the bikes, has not affected gas mileage too poorly. Still about 50mpg in the city when we accelerate carefully! =)

Very nice. I'm not so bold as the manual specifically states not to do either of these things.

Does the hitch void the warrantee then?
