That's a cool coincidence! Lots of similarities there. Good luck as well on your 1,288km quest. It's good you can put more liters in your tank. That will surely give some piece of mind and a buffer to calculate if you can make it to 1,288km without going empty.

For the elevation profile, I went to www.bikeroutetoaster.com/ and just plotted the route manually. I think you can do that with Google Earth too. I also have an iphone app Co-Driver which has a gps data logger which you can email out as .kml or .csv file and plot on a spreadsheet but somehow kept crashing lately on the last iOS update.
Yes, I still use the EBH in summer to minimize ICE start-ups. So in the morning, the coolant temps would already be 50-55 degC such that if i have a charge above 50%, I can creep out of the driveway even without putting EV on. At that startup temps (50-55degC), the car is already in stage 2 so the car can already glide. In the afternoon or when I'm not able to use the EBH, depending on the charge, I would stay stationary for about 5 secs to get that initial rush of current into the HV battery when the ICE starts up for its warm-up ritual. I then put it in D without stepping on the pedal (or ever just slightly) and just let the car creep out of the driveway. That way, the car still gets a minimal charge (around 1-6 amps) when crawling and covering some valuable distance in calculating overall consumption. If the street is not too busy, I just take my time till i get the cue that the ICE is now past stage 2 where I drive as normal (P&G).

 

Looks like you are basically at sea level at one end of your trip. Mine stays higher all the way



Like you I'd get better mileage if the route were flatter.

I didn't bother to route through the parking lot or make sure the route started exactly at my house but that is pretty close to the full one way trip from my house to work.

Driving the speed limit or even a couple of mph below makes you the civil citizen. Stand proud. It is easy for me to understand those who are in a hurry (I have a Jekyll/Hyde driving existence) so hampering the flow of traffic should be avoided if possible. Your search for another route may be the most productive course.

My c is a delivery vehicle in its Hyde mode (actually, I still follow most laws, just accelerate and stop rapidly in city traffic.) In the Jekyll mode, I am always searching for the least-travelled routes. It may take somewhat longer to arrive at a destination, but the lowering of stress and the rising of MPG pay dividends.

I realize your situation may not offer an ideal route. You can still enjoy that 50-55 MPG that the vast majority of others can only dream about. By the way, my hypermiling experiences 'rub-off' on the delivery driving and even when I'm the guy behind you wondering why in tarnation you're only doing 25 in a 30 mph zone, I'm still averaging over 55 MPG in my Hyde mode. Welcome! Oh, yeah, " Cs Unite!".

 

Can I get in the Top 20 without a picture for my 58.7 mpg (real)? Here is my entry in fuelly last summer:

22 8/3/12 619.0 10.55 58.7 3.699 20% FCD 60.8 % Diff 3.5 MPH 40 Citgo Put in $.56 extra to round off. Also started using EV button from standing starts more. This may be the reason why % Diff is so low. Wife took car for about 30 miles at 46.6 MPG FCD.​

You can look it up on my (jsfabb) 22nd fill up. Besides, don't pictures just show you what the FCD (Fuel Consumption Display - 60.8 mpg) shows and not the true mileage as fuelly does? As you can see in my entry, I try to put in additional pertinent info.

 

I'd say if you did it once, you can do it again. Makes it easier on F8L that he doesn't have to judge who is giving him the straight line, and who isn't. If he lets this one in, then someone else will ask, and so on.
Just my 2 cents on the matter.

 

I understand and can live with that, if that is the final verdict. But, as I had stated previously, doesn't a picture of the display just show the mpg the CONS registered, not the actual mileage? As you know the display error can vary. Food for thought!

 

You still haven't answered my question as to CONS display mileage vs Real (Calculated) mileage!

 

We're all reporting our "Cons" screen. Yes, we know that it is "optimistic" by 5 - 6% but it keeps things a bit simpler.

To add a little more to codyroo's respnse. If you think about it, you will realize that using calculated mileages would be less uniform across the spectrum. You'd have to allow for things such as 1- how full was the tank at the beginning? Topped-off with gas visible in the neck, three clicks, two clicks, one click at the pump? 2- Same thing at the end 3- Can everyone understand the basic math? (Sorry, but with the national debt, the deficit and all, it seems even our best and brightest leaders in Washington seem clueless.) 4- The aforementioned possibility of a less-than-honest representation (speaking of our leaders) and so on.

Photographs of what the compuer calculates seem most reasonable even though we all know it is optimistic.

 

I can just see the "Eye in the Sky" helicopter with a breaking story......two Prii, one red and one white, were seen slowly circling the Sacto airport for several hours today.......

 

Update -Two drivers were arrested for driving suspiciously. They are being questioned about a conspiracy to enlist the driver of a blue Prius in their scheme to make a politically incorrect statement of a jingoistic nature. They further aroused suspicion by babbling about internet websites, chat rooms and apparently trying to break 20 MPG in cars that everone knows get at least twice that.

 

"....I don't win a lot".

This is probably more of a circus anomaly than hard statistical fact: 97.0 MPG having driven 4.1 miles so far going to work one day on 21 mph average. Anomaly because I wasn't able to duplicate it again after repeated tries on the same route at the same speed.

Oh well - it was amazing while it lasted.
