So from the beginning the car wasn't coming on. It gave me error "p" said my parking break was not working properly and needed to be on a flat surface in order to work. We jumped it and replaced the battery shortly after that. The car will turn on but the actual engine is not turning on. The display screen has a little car with a red exclamation going through it. The dashboard also has all the lights on. We have tried to jump it from the relay at this point but it wont start now to where before it would. Any suggestions any help anyone can offer?

What voltage does the battery read with a meter 12 volts?
Could it be the charging system/generator.

I have a 2008 and my manual does not show the Symbol you are describing
There is a symbol that shows a car with a key in the symbol for the theft deterent system

have you tried your spare key?

What year prius? Where did you get the battery?

Try disconnecting the ground from the 12V battery at the point where it attaches to the car body. Let it sit for a few minutes and reconnect. This will reset the computers. Try again.

I certainly hope that you didn't reverse the polarity of the jump start! That can blow some fuses.

Where are you located? You can put that in your profile. There may be an independent shop that can help.

Its a 2006 prius and this is the first time the battery has to be replaced. We lost the spare key so thats a no go. Today when we went back to the car the battery is completely dead again. Should i try to jump the back battery instead of trying it from the relay? We got the battery at autozone and just paid the 300 bucks for it.

try the disconnect to ground as nh7o said. if that doesn't work, you need to test the battery, just because it's new doesn't mean it came with a full charge.
