Which speakers? MB Quart-biased B)

    I can't decide between the MB Quart PVL 269 (6x9 component) or the PVL 216 (6.5 component) for my front doors. I plan to use the woofer only. I also plan to have 45W RMS going to them. Rears will stay stock for now and so will the head unit. Thoughts? I'm leaning toward the 6x9 because of possibly louder and/or deeper "bass" (actually mid-bass).

    In the past I've always gotten much better (mid)base from 6 X 9s.... and look forward to hearing about your installation.

    P.S. I have both sets, PVL 269s and PVL 216s, plus a 4.50 REF amp for back up, in case the Sony XNV-770BT can't handle them. Unfortunately, only the Sony's been installed... the MB Quarts are resting comfortably under the desk in the den... as other projects/spousal assignments have taken precedent :(

    P.P.S. The 269s are currently going for $144 w/free shipping on eBay :)

    Hey, thanks for the info! What are your thoughts on running the woofer full-range and having a 3.5" 2-way in the dash with bass blocker set at 1500Hz? Because I do.

    Looks good... will the door panels seal fairly well to your mdf adapters?

    As for the tweeters, I plan to bypass/disconnect the "windshield reflectors," go straight into the crossovers, and mount the MB tweeters as high as possible up on the doors.

    I'm also assuming the cavities behind the door panels are large enough to mount the crossovers.... extra sealing required, no doubt.

    (Yes, when possible, always go with Amazon! They were considerably higher back when I bought mine.)

    The door does seal well to the MDF without any sealant. However, the MDF itself needs to be sealed and this I have done with spray-on bedliner (it's rubbery like undercoating but it actually does get dry instead of staying tacky).

    I don't trust the MDF because it's easy for the speaker screws to pull out and/or spin. I got some 1" thick plastic adapters on the way, to hold 6x9's, and I do believe I'm going to use the PVL-269 6x9's.

    I would have removed the dash tweeters as well, and mounted the MB Quart tweeters in their locations, but I had already put in the 3.5" 2-ways. So now I just need woofers.

    If you or anyone else wants, I'm willing to make the MDF adapters. They're just not for me. I'm more of a once-and-done, set it and forget it kind of guy. I'm too impatient to see how well they hold up to the rain we've been having.

    P.S. The round speaker shown is from the ONX-216 setup. I'll be getting rid of them. Pretty nice quality...

    I finally decided on speakers...I went with CDT Audio 6x9's CL-69SUB. They seem to be a bit more substantial than Maxxsonics. Will put up pics when they arrive. The seller of the brackets said if I took install pics I'd get a 50% refund. But everyone here will get to see them for free ;)

    If I may, the tweeter will sound much better in the stock squaker location up front, than on the door, if using two-ways with cross-overs. See my Gallery. Best wishes.

    I put 3-ways up front and used velco to help locate the best practical placement for "my" tweeters. I placed my mid-range where the squakers were. I received a lot of comments stating what I did was wrong, however I now have one of the best sounding systems period. My comment for 2-way placement was merely experienced based to help you keep your stage up front and preventing you from cutting unnecessary holes with poor results. Only you can decide what sounds and looks best for your car. My regards and I wish you the best. ;)

    This is what I got today:

    CDT Audio CL-69SUB 6x9 subwoofers. They can handle 100W rms.

    But should I send 45W rms to all 4 corners, or bridge and send 90W rms to the front, and run the rears off the head unit (they are stock)?
