LOL! Folks "look" but the horses are the deal breaker for 98%. I was shocked and amused at the same time at the response I got when I told someone I own a Prius. :D

Not many want to get involved with me or my horses because of the time they take... but they give me a reason to get up in the morning. Plus, there is nothing like having 16.1 hands of supercharged Thoroughbred dancing at the end of the lead - had to take her "octane levels" down a few clicks... I should see results in a week.

I also have friends now playing Cupid so I will have to see what transpires - right now for me it is about making friends first coupled with coffee and sports.

I almost forgot this part of the ad: "...must love coffee, Prius, and horses. (not necessarily in that order)" :)

    To hijack the thread ---

Why don't all sentient humans learn to look first?

For the seat-up case, I thought a single experience at an early single digit age should be sufficient to remember for life. Are there some slow learners out there?

For the wet-seat-down case, it isn't just sons. Little sisters do it too. And even when all the kids are trained, the dogs still slobber while lapping from the toilet, and cats still leave muddy footprints on the seat as they reach in for a drink.

Mom realized that seat-up reduced the pet mess, and was easier for slipped cats to escape, so she never asked for the seat to be left down. The spouse dislikes pets drinking from the can at all, so in this household, everything -- seat and lid too -- must be left down. Thus, even women need to look and raise and lower something every time.

    I agree... look first!

Had a date this evening who was fascinated by my car and all her electronics. We went ice skating on an outdoor rink that was playing Christmas music very close to home, managed not to have any Prius vs. deer moments - they crossed ahead of me and were well lit by the high beams... and after two hours of skating I might actually sleep well this evening... fun to go out on a school night at the last minute and the coffee was great...

There is no toilet-seat up or down debate. There is only a dumb fight between people who like having toilet water sprayed on to them and everything in a 8-foot radius when they don't put the toilet lid down.

Seriously? You want to take a perfectly charming thread about the pitfalls of dating, and turn it into a discussion of toilet seats?

It is the crap that happens in life, unfortunately. I did a "try before you buy" period of living with the ex prior to marriage but time and alcoholism changes things. He'd ask "What did you cook me for dinner?" after I worked an 8 hour day... 10+ hours when events like Awards Night and graduation were happening... I merely said, "June Cleaver and Donna Reed did not work outside the home and both are deceased now." And that just scratches the surface of years of damaging comments directed my way. You either crumple or come out stronger than ever. I am still standing strong.

Hence, I can live with my online profile. Off the record: "Opinionated and looking for baggage that matches mine.";) "Must love horses and coffee and Prius" in whatever order works for you. (Thanks for the suggestion!). And if you actually drive a Prius, please send pics of the car and her stats.:D

    Life is good!

I always wondered if it is cheaper to hire a maid service and get take out food a few days a week than get divorced. I know there is more to it than that, but sometimes the best marriages are the ones with shared burden, common sense problem solving and genuine respect for each other. It is at least the start of a good marriage. I'm sure the second time wround the red flags won't get looked over.

I hoped my marriage would have ended better. Tried therapy for years. Being called horrific names by someone under the influence while I was driving his *** home, retrieving him from the police after he crashed his bike in a drunken state, having to escort him when he was too drunk to get on a plane and then when he could fly he passed out from dehydration...and was not allowed to fly until he got clearance from a hospital (that was lots of fun going to an NYC ER!), being told he "would never travel with me because I like a routine." His idea is to stumble around drunk on European trains and try to find somewhere to sleep. No thanks! They make movies about crap like that and when I have seen enough I can change the channel.

Years of this verbal abuse weighs hard on a person. I wanted things to work but not the way they were going. When I said I wanted the divorce he was still in disbelief. You know it is not going to work when a couples' therapist says, "I am not going to waste your money. There is no hope here."

Friends and family watched and said for years what I should do but until this year, the timing was off. Needed kids to grow and get established on their own and then I spread my wings and flew the coop. The ex still complains about having to clean his house and cook meals. Happily, it's not my problem anymore.:D

This was a sad chapter in my life I closed the book on... you fall and get scraped up, you learn, you heal and you move on. Hopefully my next almost 50 years is much happier. I am certainly on my way.

    Hope always springs eternal.;)

And if you are lucky, after all is said and done, you have a Prius in the garage.:D

    Personally...

    I'm a seat up guy...

However, since I am married... I know that the error of continuing to believe that the seat up is a good thing (regardless of the fact I am the one that cleans) will only lead to grief and spirited conversations that at some point include a remark about some other behavior that hasn't got a darn thing to do with that...

    Oh...

    Wait...

    Ummmm...

I remember dating a girl briefly who was married to a guy with a drinking problem. He could not keep a job and had long periods of being out of work. Her stories would literally scare me. I give her credit for being loyal and trying to help him. She finally left him. I remember catching up with her many years later and she did remarry and life was good for her. Her former husband found a good doctor and his problem was he was clinically depressed and was self medicating. He got straight and medicine and therapy and had a good life and married again. It took plenty but both worked out.

Glad it worked out for both parties involved.

My ex functions well and always worked his *** off but I can imagine your friend's stories as I have probably lived some very similar stories. He does not believe in pain meds and self-medicated himself after minor surgery... probably has depression and other issues but would never address it. He has friends who are MDs who have "suggested" he sign up for "the program" but he denies there is a problem.

Divorce in my case was a good thing as my marriage was slowly and surely draining the life out of me. The six hour drive to freedom after my papers were signed was liberating.

Life is good, even though I am "unmatched." Thankfully, a very strong minded, single friend of mine suggested a ski vacation next weekend through Christmas Day. It will be a holiday unlike anything I have ever done - going out to restaurants, skiing in NH... I was worried I was going to be feeling the holiday negatively without my kids around and being alone for the first time in years but all of a sudden, I feel really, really fortunate. The tragedy in my state also put my (selfish) thoughts in perspective... I am very fortunate. It is just a matter of changing one's perspective.

That so happens - one little thing snowballs into another and another and one stands there in disbelief saying, "Wait, what just happened???!!!"

The whole event just makes me laugh and shake my head...was telling a friend just one word made the online guy come totally unglued and it was not anything I would have thought...

Going off for a large poison coffee and running some errands before I have to retrieve my truck from the repair shop... she was repaired by the mechanic who works on my family's cars and trucks and he was very excited to have the work come in and he got it done in a few hours - and the price was less than I thought. I am very grateful!!!

Having a mechanic you can trust and is reasonable is fortunate.
