I am a recent (month or so) owner of a Sea Glass Pearl 2012 Prius after my 2006 Prius met an untimely end. My old Prius was a base and this one is a Package 3. I am not quite used to the fun new gadgets and designs this one has. I'm loving it, though I am not quite ready to change my allegiance to the new Prius.

Anyway my question is about the Bluetooth, which is something new for me. I never was too keen on the bluetooth earpieces so I had always used 'wired' earpieces. I am loving this feature on the car though. My question is that sometimes I have Skype calls since a lot of folks I know are overseas. I haven't been able to sync these with the Bluetooth. So far it seems like only voice calls sync. Other sounds don't sync either - AND more importantly, when I use my navigation on my phone the voice for THAT is not syncing. When I have it on the navigation and the BT is on, it says it's connected via BT, but I don't hear anything. The only way I can get it to play anything at all is to turn BT off and play it through the phone, which is not that loud. I have a Galaxy Nexus if that helps. Thanks in advance

What kind of smartphone do you have? I had all kinds of bluetooth problems with an android. Now I have an iPhone and the bluetooth performance is excellent. I can listen to iHeartRadio, music, phone calls, etc. with no problems. Maybe the later versions of android work better. I haven't tried navigation yet.

I'm a iPhone customer since the beginning. Don't know squat about Android. I have Skype when my kid went to Europe he could call us free if he was on a hot spot. Never got a Skype call in the car so can't tell you if it works. Hopefully some one will chime in for you soon.

It doesn't help you entirely with your problem, but you can play sounds from your phone via the cars speakers by connecting the phone to the auxiliary jack found at the back of your center compartment. You can get a short cable to do this for about $6-7 at RadioShack (probably cheaper online). Longer cables will cost a little more (about $12). This is what I use to play sound when I want to use the phone for navigation.

When connected tune the radio to Aux by pressing the Aux button -- I think it's on the right hand side of the CD player, towards the bottom of the column of buttons.

I have an Android. My problem is occasionally the phone doesn't sync with the car although I turn on Bluetooth, but it is rare. Usually works great without problems. Haven't tried to Skype, but with it connected to the Aux port, it should work fine.

Addendum: Just noticed you said 2012 Prius. Mine is 2010. Button arrangement may differ.

I have an Android too - it's a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I can only get incoming and outgoing phone calls with the syncing...which I am loving, but I'd REALLY like to get the navigation through there and the Skype calls.

Is the Aux the thingee that looks like the cigarette lighter or the USB connection? I have my ipod usually hooked up to the USB connection. Maybe I can get a double USB cord or something.

I think it is in the center Console arm rest in the Storage Box for 2012. The 2012 aux button is in the touch screen under music, you can select am, fm, sat, aux, apps, etc.

When you initially register your phone, it shouldn't require a password for simple calling mode.

You'll need to go back to the BLUETOOTH MENU and there should be a REGISTER button. Hit it. This will enable other bluetooth modes (A2DP / Streaming).

As far as the audio, you might need to set your car into some sort of AUX or BLUETOOTH music mode. I haven't played with Entune.

    Your manual is here:

    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omnav/OM33A02U/pdf/n08.pdf

On page 204, there is "Connect for Music". That should be A2DP. Make sure it says "Disconnect From Music" (that means it's connected). Android navigation uses A2DP (A2DP is essentially 2 speaker Stereo audio, normal phone is 1 speaker).

On my Ford Fusion, I need to set the car to "Bluetooth Streaming" (overriding the FM Stereo), which is A2DP mode, to hear Google Navigation.

    In your Audio system manual:
    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omnav/OM33A02U/pdf/n04.pdf

On page 103 it indicates similarly there is a "BLUETOOTH" audio source. You'd need that for hearing Google Navigation. The unfortunate truth to this, is you won't hear your normal music. You'll have to stream music via your phone if you want it while doing Google Navigation.

For Skype.... that's a different beast. Normally there are 2 profiles, Hands Free Profile (HFP), and Headset Profile (HSP) (only these profiles let you use the Microphone). I'm not sure when you set the car to BLUETOOTH AUDIO mode, if it connects to these profiles.

On my Fusion, it does. I can use the car's microhpone to do google searches, etc. I haven't experimented with how the Toyota system behaves.

Speedyroo, the Aux cable/hole is small and circular. I think 3.5 mm in diameter. Not as a big as a cigarette lighter. It may have a headphones symbol near it on your phone -- I imagine it's the only circular hole on your phone.

    Update:

I tried the new Google maps app in navigation mode on the iPhone 4s via bluetooth audio. It works great. The female voice is very clear and sounds almost human. It smoothly interrupts the radio with the navigation directions over the car speakers. That's the reason I switched to Virgin Mobile iPhone from android. It just works better. There's one caveat: if the car is turned off, the bluetooth audio stops working. You might have to restart navigation to get it back.

Update: If the bluetooth connection is lost from stopping the car, navigation keeps working after startup, but the sound quality of the voice is degraded. If I start another voice app, like iHeart radio, it returns to normal. Seems like an iPhone or Google maps bug.

My Samsung Galaxy S3 with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 is mostly syncing contacts phone numbers only with my new 2013 Package 4 with HDD/Enrtune. I had to modify some of my Google contacts so they would actually sync since at first about 90% was successful, but some contacts still have WP2 as a listed phone number instead of the actual number which I still have a lot of contact editing to resolve. Another weird thing is that only a few of the contacts synced the contact's picture, but not all.

However, the most upsetting thing for me is that no contact address are syncing to the navigation system at all! I can't believe in this day and age that I'm still having to tap, tap, tap, addresses that are already in my contacts into the navigation system. And, you don't want to get me started on the P.O.S. Entune Android app!

As for audio, I've been able to split the bluetooth connection between the phone and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet by setting the phone to handset only with the tablet in media player only mode in their bluetooth settings. I only get pause and play on the nav touchscreens bluetooth media player. Although, when I use the track and seek buttons, or the up/down arrow buttons on the steering wheel, or use the tuner knob, I'm able to go back and forth to the next song/podcast.

Okay - I figured out what I was doing wrong. But it arises a new question.

I have an iPod which I connect via the USB connection in the console. It's a rather old iPod....probably 5-6yrs old. iPod classic. So when I'm driving I have it in 'iPod' mode. I sat in the care fiddling around with it and I got the navigation to speak through "BT" mode - which I (duh) figured out was Bluetooth mode.

Now....what I want to know....is there anyway can I listen to music from the iPod AND listen to the navigation? How come when I get calls it interrupts the music and comes in through the car, but the navigation only operates through BT mode? or AUX mode? Why can't I get the navigation and music at the same time? I don't want to have to take a road trip and not be able to listen to anything....

Well, I finally figured out why only some contact pictures from my Galaxy S3 are syncing with the Prius w/HDD. It turns out that only the contacts which are listed in the phone's call 'HISTORY' log are showing the contact's picture on the HDD since the call history syncs with the HDD too. That is some very strange behavior, but at least I know why now.

    UPDATE:
WELL, I figured I would just hack my call history log to have more contact pictures transfer to the Prius, BUT I crashed and burned since the Prius will only pull the last 10 calls from each category of incoming, missed, and outgoing call history. So, that's just 30 total of the most recent from each category. Oh well...

Well it depends how the car does it, to do google search or Siri with car's mic the system needs to enable BT SCO channel. my old Nokia CK20 does that in my old car.

Skype - really depends how the App is done.
My vonage app gets handsfree. I don't see why such system would have any support for Headset profile since its not a headset.

I reckon U have the Display Audio and Entune Navigation System
Navigation does not operate in Bluetooth or ipod mode. There is no such mod in the system.
if U have a route created, to hear the navigation prompts just push the speaker icon on the map and adjust the vol accordingly. your ipod music will still plays and the nav prompts will go over the music.

Not tried skype but I ran vonage App on my iphone. Essentially its VOIP and I have no problem using it on the system. Perhaps Skype need to write the App differently to be compatible?
