2012 Prius w/SPORT Package SMASHED in Accident

Update 12/20/12:

The Prius went back to the shop for 10 days and while things look better, the rear bumper still sticks out. Instead of prominently on the passenger side, they have evenly distributed the bulge among both sides. I called State Farm and inquired about the diminished value claim and while he was perusing my file I asked about the auto repair process. If repairs are meant to make a car look and be exactly how it was pre-accident or close enough. He said it didn't sound normal; the bumper and was going to yet again send someone out to look at it, especially since we are now in the works of figuring out diminished value and a protruding bumper makes that amount go up. What gets me is that the first person they sent out from State Farm to over see the repairs went and looked at the Prius before I went and picked it up and said it looked great.

The body shop picked up the tab for the rental I had for 10 days. Also State Farm did not have to pay out anything for this second round of repairs because it should have been done right the first time.

Since having it back for less than 24 hours I've noticed my body side moldings are different in color (the pearl white shade is different.) The rear bumper still sticks out. The gas tank cover feels tight and sticks out. The rear passenger door sticks out too far. There is still over spray on my wheels. It's madness I say.

 

I'm allowing State Farm to do what they "need" to do. Which is sending someone else out to look at the car once again. Here is what I think will happen. The rep will determine once again that it can be repaired and it goes back to the body shop. Here is what I hope will happen. State Farm realizes it's been 10 weeks and still the Prius isn't right meaning it can't be repaired to it's pre-accident condition and they total it.

 

If they don't, I'm asking for $11,333 in diminished value which that added with the repair cost equals what they would have had to pay out had they totaled it. (Assuming the at fault parties insurance was basic 25/50/25)

 

That would be ideal. It's kind of like having a full time 24/7 job dealing with this. Even when I'm not physically dealing with it; phone calls, picking up or dropping off rental cars or my car, writing e-mails, doing research and such I am thinking about it. Worrying what I'm gonna do about trading it in, how I'm gonna be paying for all this extra gas I'm spending etc. I've certainly learned a lot during this process. When I had my first accident I was very hands off about it all and got royally screwed.
