congratulations, looks like the sweet deals on Base are no longer available as the year closes due to limited inventory.
just curious, did you ask about advanced prices at all?

Ok here I go again! My beef with the spreadsheet! To be fair, we should all list out MSRP on the car too! If someone started on the pip advance at 41500 and ended up at 33000 then that's a lot better than someone who started at 40000 MSRP and ended up at 33000.
Lensovet, can we work on something like this.

You must agree that where people started from and also what they actually bought (with options) is a critical bit of information to know?!

    Peace and Merry Christmas!

I dont have the exact numbers in front of me, but below is a very close approximate. Not the best deal, but much better than anything I could have gotten in CA and I got the color that I wanted (Blizzard Pearl).

    MSRP: $33,205 (base Blizzard Pearl)
    Selling Price: $31,260
    Doc fees: $200
ATC fee: ~$300 (third-party used to register car in CA)
    Tax/titles/reg: ~$2740
    Sub-total: ~$34,500
    TFS rebate: -$4,000
    My TOTAL OTD: ~$30,500

but there's only two model grades and no options. so MSRP for Base is always 33,xxx and for Advanced is always 40,xxx including delivery and whatever random accessories the dealer tacks on (mats, cargo net, etc)

Oh c'mon!! Random accessories???? Those random accessories (illuminated door sills, lower molding, cargo net, rear bumper appliqué, tinted windows(400$ at my dealership in Valencia) etc can easily add over 750$ to the total price that one has to start with when they are negotiating their price?
I've been watching your post. You appear to be a very reasonable person. On the spreadsheet we are all within a couple of hundred dollars of each other, if someone STARTED at dealer asking price of high 41,000 then they should get credit for "a better deal"! What do you think?

I did not inquire about the advanced. To be honest, the PiP base was a bit above my price range, so even a few more thousand would have been pushing too far.

I actually went in to test drive the prius C4 - found that my tall husband did not have headroom and test drove the prius hybrid. Then found out about the incentive for the PiP, and then the research, which led me to this forum and you know the rest.

If you really want to be nitpicky. You'd need to include trade-in value and extended warranty/paint protection, etc. The dealer can offer you a low sale price but totally take you on the trade-in value and VIN etching. I mean you're talking <$1K which the dealer could easily absorb in prepaid maintenance.

It's not a perfect model but it's a good reference point to compare quotes and what you paid for. It's totally free and no trophy is awarded so don't be too concerned about getting "credit."

yeah, this, plus the other thing is that it's already been somewhat difficult tracking down the numbers that are already there, adding the layer of MSRP onto it would just make things even more complicated.
the reality is that basically all cars are within the range I gave. and there aren't that many things that can get tacked on this car – it's basically mats, illuminated door sills, cargo net, rear bumper appliqué, and lower moldings. any dealer-installed accessories, like tinting or leather, i would argue you should flat out refuse to pay for.

I have a dealer offering "Free Lifetime powertrain coverage". He said they'll cover my engines, transmission, and my drive train axle for free! Anyone got something like this from their dealer?

I would trust it if it was provided by Toyota. I find it odd coming from a dealership. The dealer that sold my last car went out of business the year after I bought it so I am leery.

    Ok I bought one:
    Price of car: $31,555.89
    Title processing fee $75.00
    NYS tire fee $12.50
    State inspection $10.00
    License and title $185.00
    Total before Tax $31,838.09
    NYS %8.626 Tax $2,721.70
    Total $34,560.09

    TFS $4000 cash back -$4,000.00

Total OTD $30,560.09 (the price I was negotiating)

Long Island Power rebate -$500.00 ( hopefully)
    Federal Tax rebate -$2,500.00 (hopefully)
    %0 financing
    Total cost to us. $27,560.09

    Here is the
    price without tax,
    with TFS cash back: $27,838.09

    Without registration :
    and other govt fees: $27,555.59

All negotiating done on the phone, tried a few dealers off of long island, was not doing any better. The only thing they tried to add at the dealer to the OTD was the $185 registration. I objected, no battle. Mats and netting were in the car. Sea glass green.

My goal was to get it for $500 less.

Thanks for setting up this thread, it was very helpful.
