Thanks ucsmfu. We had everything lined up and prepped only to find out the screw that was supplies was too small for the antenna hole. Luckily, we were able to find one that fit from our IT help desk scrap pile.

I installed gas struts on (under) my hood today. Always hated those fold down struts FrontnoOEMStrut.jpg . No one will ever see them except me and the mechanics (and hopefully not too many mechanics).

Very cool mod. Would you mind sharing where you got the parts and how hard it was to install?

I picked up a pair on E Bay. They come in three or four different colors and real easy to install. Way better, then the stock metal broomstick.

I saw those already. I would rather get the black chrome emblems first. Thanks for the heads up though.

Burna J found a better deal than I did. I got mine on eBay as well, here - a Toyota dealer in West Covina. The parts are from from Circuit Sports who are likely sourcing from Taiwan anyway.

For a couple of weeks shipping, the ones from Taiwan would be just fine - too bad I missed them!

Installation should have taken all of about 20 minutes.

Tools required - a 12mm (I think) box/open wrench and socket (but you could do it all with the wrench).

Unscrew 2 fender and 2 hinge bolts that have captive nuts, place the brackets, replace the bolts, attach the struts and take off one bolt to remove the "broomstick". That's it.
However I managed to drop my socket down a gap at the windshield/fender/hood hinge junction and took another 15 minutes to find a wire to fish the thing back out!
Moral of the story is to cover the engine compartment area (and the area below the hinges) with shop rags, a blanket or something similar while working above the engine! Especially true because there are some small safety clips used to keep the ball joints in the sockets. Losing one of those inside the engine compartment would be painful. My excuse is it was only 32F while I was doing this, so I was in a hurry!
Anyway, an easy mod and not badly priced for $50 and $12 shipping. I paid $43 just for USPS shipping from California to Toronto. USPS is making buying from the US unattractive (and UPS is even worse).
