OK I pulled the trigger. 18 x 8 with 225 40 18's. I hope they fit perfectly without sticking out too much (rock chips?) or any serious decline in mileage (they're only 18lbs, but I hope their width doesn't affect it)...

Now that I have been sucked into reading this soap opera , yes gotta see the pics, but even as important, the effect on the MPG's! Hopefully with the light weight, but the contact area will be greater, you should come out close to your norm, I bet 2 mpg low.
Let us know! This will take several tanks to get some valid data. Looking forward to your results!

I feel it has less to do with the contact patch as it does with aerodynamics and sidewall design. Those short sidewalls do not seem efficient with regards to controlling hysteresis and returning energy used in tire deformation back to forward motion.

I am just reading how much MPG is affected by change to aftermarket rims. But already ordered. Scared now

Hey F8L, Happy Holidays to ya bro! I never considered the sidewall deformation an asset, and how much do you really get back? I would think life would be bumpier with the lower profile tire. Particularity when over pressured!
I am happy with my Energy Savers however! I guess I will stay with my stock wheels, I am thinking powder coat job might be in order. ...

I'll be here in Chatsworth until Wednesday I think. I plan on meeting Sean and Vel tomorrow to trade some parts. Then going to watch the Hobbit with family. :)

We should do a quick mini meet somewhere!

I'd like to meet up but it's gonna be a bit rough to make it all the way out near Chatsworth during the holidays for me... If somehow you wind up by West LA, let me know and depending on when, I can try to make it out. Otherwise, lets formally plan for a bigger meet another time?
