    Hi All,

I just picked up a new Prius Plug-in and while I do like it very much I have one problem that has been bothering me. When I am in the car for more than a few moments, I begin to notice something different about the air inside. There is something in the air that makes breathing a bit difficult. If I have the blower pointed at my face it seems to go away.

Has anyone else experiance something similar to this?

if you have a garage, open all the windows and leave it that way for a day or so.
if you don't have a garage, no idea.

I took my daughter-in-laws canary to my house in my PIP while they were on vacation. Wasn't any trouble because it died before I got home.

Rigor had set in before I realized he was gone. It is too painful to talk about.

I hate the smell of new cars, mainly because I know what I'm breathing when I smell it. A little baking in the sun followed by ventilation helps to speed the process.

Seriously, the new car smell is always nice. The new smell in the PIP is not offensive. I think there was some smell in the HVAC system. By the time I drove the 800 miles home (using heater all the way) from the NY dealer, it was gone. The interior still smell fresh but benign. Had it all of six weeks.

Maybe the dealer applied something? Fabric protection?

I am leaning towards this being some dealer applied crap. If they apply some 3M stuff they need to let it dry with the windows open which they probably did not do. My PIP did not offgas anything that I noticed. Make sure you are not running the recirculation mode, get the fresh air in.

My PiP has been releasing the gas. I am not sure if I noticed it while breathing. I noticed it from the residue that would build up on the windshield. It has been gassing at a much slower rate than when it was new.

All cars will build up that residue on the windshield and it will reduce over time. Probably some folks are more sensitive to the gassing...
