Yokohama Vs Michelin Energy Saver a/s . Does anyone have experience with these two tires ? I presently have the Yokohama tires that came on my Prius They have At least half their tread left at 20,000 mil . considering changing because I happen to have the extra money right now and I'm becoming obsessed with getting good gas mileage ... If I do change what can I expect the difference to be ? Thank you and realize Im new at this

Sorry I forgot to post that the tires I have now are the AVID s33 . I have searched the site's for postings on tires and that's why I'm considering the energy saver .

The S33D tires are pretty bad but liveable. The offer good fuel economy. The Energy Saver A/S is a far superior tire in every way. MPG should go up by about 2-3 depending on the amount of wear on your old tires. Worn tires have lower rolling resistance than when the tire is new.

The ESAS is hard to come by. I see TireRack.com currently has some but everyone else I have checked is special order. I may check with Costco this week since they are running the $70 rebate on 4 Michelin tires right now.

IMO if you are not hurting for tires right now and you love to see big mpg numbers then wait for the Energy Saver A/S to become available again. No other tire in North America matches it currently.

F8l Thank you for responding . I had heard rumors on here that Michelin was discontinuing my tire size . I found a local tire shop that says they have four A/s left And they want $594 to install them . The other places I've called around can't get them . Do you know if they are going to be available again ? I also read one of your posts mentioned a T rating Is there two types of the same tire I should be aware of ?

Don't let a tire shop take you to the cleaners for these tires. I would try to get them done into the lower $500 range if possible. It's not a terrible price but you can find a better deal once the tires are readiliy available again. They did not discontinue the 105/65/15 ESAS. They just rotate production such that they have a hard time keeping up with demand in this size. I would hold out for them to become available as long as your current tires are not in the danger zone. Have you checked with Discount Tire/America's Tire Company? They match pricing. They also do a sale twice a year where you get $100 of a set of four tires.

The next best tire for FE is the Ecopia EP422 and what it loses in mpg vs. the ESAS it makes up for in a cheaper initial price. Costco often has the $70 rebate for them although this month they are doing Michelin.

I was told by America's Tire that there was an H-rated version but I have never seen it. I just ask you be certain you are getting the T-rated version which is the best for FE.

No problem. Tires make such a huge difference in our driving experience that you might as well take your time and get the best. :)
