Is it me or does your Prius have excessive roll-back when put in "Park"? Mine feels like there is 6 inches of travel after it is engaged. If so, is there any way to adjust the slop out of the transmission parking pawl??

    And it has Park roll-forward.

    And ICE Start lurch-forward.

    All normal.

Yea it's normal but maybe a few inches, certainly not six inches... If you want to eliminate the problem entirely simply engage the emergency brake prior to putting the car in park...

PS: You can view the device and how it works in this video here:

Yep, your little video is interesting. I can see why there is s0 much roll-back. Guess I'll have to start applying the park brake as you suggested. Now, if Toyota would consider an automatic park brake release I would be a Happy Camper.

Part of the goal of the Prius is to be the same as a regular car so it's easier to market... All automatic transmissions do this... Just like how all automatic transmissions will roll the car forward if you take your foot off the brake at a stoplight. They didn't have to design it this way but it's probably one of the reasons why Prius outsells all other hybrids combined...

The design of the park mechanism on the Prius was more of an engineering necessity due to the drive system.
