Consumer Reports MPG Result For 2013 Fusion & C-Max Hybrids!

    I can certainly vouch for that, Sandy is her name, and she did a lousy job too. She basically told me she doesn't care that my actual MPG based upon the amount of gas used vs miles driven shows it far below what the cars computer is saying.

    It didn't take long for Ford to add a cash back bonus for both the C-max and Fusion.

    More hype. Honda now claiming to be the leader. Isn't this good though? The kind of competition we've wanted to see for a long time. I think these cars will outsell BEVs because you can get some EV jollys but still go hundreds of miles if you want. Still, price is high and they don't make economic sense, yet.

    Honda says the non-plug Accord hybrid to get 47 MPG combined. That's pretty optimistic. Interesting the plug in coming out before the non-plug.

    sorry, back to topic. I'm glad to see Ford putting out a range of hybrids and plug-ins.

    I do like MPGe, it is usefull but it is far from perfect. It definitely is misleading when range and CS MPG are not included.

    MPGe is dumb, I mean how can you rate electricity by the gallon? How about how many miles you can drive based on the amount of Kwh the car takes to fully charge? It is easy to figure out how much you spend on gas based on MPG, but how can you calculate what your E costs are?

    Currently my monthly electric bill is about $230 on average(why, I dont know, maybe the two refrigerators I have are the problem, The water heat tape and tank heaters are part of it), so if I charge my car every night of the week, and maybe one day on the weekend, what will I be paying in electricity? An additional $20, $30, $40? That would be more informational than this goofy 115 MPGe!

    Well, my 2011 Prius hatchback is currently getting around 30 mpg. My drive to work is only 2 miles, and the temps are in the 20's at best. So, I could say my MPG is way below what was advertised too. My point is that we do not know what conditions these estimates came from. I sat in a new C-MAX, and the quality of materials is way above the Prius, and the fit and finish are comparable. I plan to drive one soon and may make the switch.

    We DO know the conditions these vehicles are being driven in. They are not extreme cases like yours. Any non electrified vehicle you choose will do poorly in your situation. That is why plug ins are a much better choice for people like you.

    I would avoid anything that isn't a plug in if I were in your situation.

    Just tonight, I went to pick up my wife at the train station with 5 mins idling wait - 2 miles round trip.

    Went to a restaurant for dinner - 3 miles, mostly highway between 50-55 mph.

    After dinner, went to Supermarket #1 - 0.5 miles.

    Went to Supermarket #2 - 0.6 miles.

    Back to home - 3.7 miles, mostly highway.

    Total 9.8 miles with 0.1 EV mile left. We used heated seats since outside temp was 30 deg F. Regular Prius would not do good in a combination of such short trips.

    Good point. That though crossed my mind although the price of the plug-ins seems to be quite a bit more. Some cost analysis is in order

    Don't need a hybrid for a 2 mile commute to work, 6k or so miles / year.

    Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG is a better indicator of aggregate average fuel economy, about 49 MPG for Prius liftback and 38.5 for C-Max hybrid so far. Drive 2 miles in 20F, yes, will get 30mpg in Prius, maybe 26 in C-Max hybrid.

    About Prius liftback cockpit, Toyota must improve the ergonomic 'correctness', feels of materials, layout, etc.... it's still a bit of an outlier. Toyota jacked up the steering wheel placement a bit in 3rd Gen. Push it all way in, who would need their wheel that close to dash, a 4'8" driver? How many of them around?

    Push driver's seat all way back, pull out wheel, it's still in the next county. Almost straight arms to reach it while pedals are easily reachable.

    (I'm trying to stir the pot because Toyota is probably starting to design 4th Gen liftback).

    Aye, but with the tax incentives available the cost difference may be less than you think. Cycledrum has a good point though. For such low miles driven you could go with just about any other non-hybrid and either save a bunch of money (econobox) or enjoy more comfort/power. :)

    I seriously considered a Volt but after spending time on their forum I was worried with the number of problems I read about. Most we're minor but considering I have had zero problems with my Prii in over 180,000 miles of driving I decided to stick with Toyota.

    With such a short commute I think you would like a PIP or Volt. You won't save any money with the switch but you may enjoy the car more. :)

    Well I got my car back after they replaced the plugs, and found no problem. So what fouled the plugs? Shrug, thats about the answer I got. Guess i just have to drive it more, and foul them again two more times and then file a lawsuit to get the car replaced.

    acdii, ask for a copy of the repair order so you can see exactly what was replaced/serviced. They may not be telling you everything.

    Service manager left it open since they didn't actually repair anything, they just replaced the plugs and drove it. I have the print out from my first visit, this one will be ongoing.

    Uhh... they should still give you a receipt. Ford Mo Co has to pay for the plugs and labor.
