I had the OEM Auto Dim mirror in my 2012 Prius Five- it was always troublesome. If you search, you'll find many complaints here about the mirrors inability to dim in the Prius due to the split rear window design of the Prius hatchback. I traded my Five in for a Plug-in Prius- without the Auto Dim mirror- I'm very happy to have a regular mirror now that I can actually dim when needed. Save your money- you will be very disappointed by the OEM Auto Dim mirror in the Prius.

I agree with the poor performance of the auto dimming mirror on the 2010-2011 Prius. I went to the trouble of installing it and after all of the work (wiring, etc) it doesn't work well at all. It almost always stays 'undimmed' unless there are multiple cars behind me with headlights on. If a single car's headlights hit the sensor just right, it will dim, but it is the exception rather than the rule. I've tried rotating the mirror 180 degrees so that the sensor is on the top rather than the bottom, but it doesn't really help. I'm probably going to reinstall the manual 'flip' mirror.

I have had these mirrors in my cars since they first came out in the '80s.
They do not work the best in the Prius, but you can improve on them by using a small piece of black electrical tape and covering a portion of the forward facing sensor on the back (facing the windshield) of the mirror. I have also used glass tint film to cover the opening.
    It helps.

1st off, u will need to get the wiring pigtail that plugs into the mirror. Then u will need to tap into a power & ground source.

Aside from it not dimming when it should, I love my mirror simply for the home link feature

Does the homelink aspect need the 12V power or is there just a battery that it works off of?

All I want is the homelink feature.
