When I had my PIP at my dealer to check the misfire, they Washed the car which is nice, like they do all the time, but they didn't charge it with their L2 charger. Darn.
The 3 kWh charge would have only cost 25 cents, here in Rochester, NY.
Dianne, does your Service Dept charge the PIPs?

I have yet to find a Toyota dealer in Nor Cal that has the L2 charger. When I have asked about charging with the included cable, they've just ignored me. Other issue I find is that the sales people have no idea what the differences and what programs come along with the PIP... Most just see it as the same as the standard Prius.

    Great business model.

Yep yep. I remember telling the guys at Berkeley that they should have a charged up car for test drives and they said, why, it drives just like a normal Prius!
And when I pointed out that they had a free outlet in the showroom three feet away from the pip that they could use to charge it, they basically told me to go f*** myself.

True- We should be careful what we ask for... we'll end up with even more attempted add-ons for those "recommended" service packages some dealers attempt to up-sell us on.

I would think that every Toyota dealer should have at least 2 L2 chargers. One for techs to use and to charge every car as part of the service and the other one to advertise free charging for all who buy a PIP, first come first served. At most this will cost ~12 hrs/day * $0.25/hr or $3/day. They could save $3/day by using fewer helium balloons and a "free" charging sign would attract more business than the balloons.

How can they possibly test and diagnose charging issues without both a 110v and 220v charger? Yeah, maybe it is OK now...but in 2-3 years there will be people with some problems.

truthfully I think they should. Every single time my car has been at he dealership to also include my wifes non Plug-In i get it back with a depleated charge. I'm a mechanic myself and I know exactly why. When I took it in to have the rear beep and seatbelt alarms disabled I got it back down 2 miles electric charge? why? Because it was 95 degrees out and the tech was blaring the A/C and spent 45 minutes relaxing in my driver seat to do 10 minutes of work.

As a Mechanic, is that how You were taught? I hope not.
I would hope the Shop Manager would make sure everyone is as cost efficient as possible, not wasting any time.

I've experienced this as well - will show up to the dealership and still have a significant charge on PIP, >=9 mi on the display... when I get it back, it either has <=2 mi or it's got nothing left for EV mode. :(

Is there some sort of test they're doing on the battery, or is this just someone running the A/C or something? I know they're not driving it more than around the lot which shouldn't add up to more than 1 mile. *sigh*

Hey once the techs find out about the PIPs great A/C capacity of course they will cool off in it. That is until enough people complain...

    I'm sorry - I was on vacation for a few days. :)
We do charge here when it's requested. I have 18 Rav4 EVs to charge too + an ongoing flurry of PlugIn arrivals and departures so the charger gets used a bunch!

I have actually been thinking of renting a Rav4 EV for a weekend but from Saturday morning to Monday morning (closed sunday) is $175 with 500 miles limit.

I was at Thousad Oaks Toyota today for my 5K tire rotation. I asked the service writer if they charged the car as part of the service and I got a resounding "no."

Got a survey from Toyota HQ wanting my opinion, in addition to other things, about their dealer's waiting area, coffee and snacks, etc. No question on the form about charging, and yet it specified my PiP. Wish I had thought to mention it in the remarks column. This was at DCH in Simi. Sorry Dianne, if you are reading this, it was too far to go this time.;)

No, I didn't. But they took my email address, so I am expecting a survey of some sort about the servive and I will mention it there. If they don't send a survey ( or a follow-up call) MI will send an email directly to the dealership.

Roger - Did you get the same response at Simi Toyota?
