Charging your PIP in the garage is also getting you more battery range.
I was up to 12+ battery miles in the summer, but now only 9.6 in the cold 25 outside temp.

Temp is rising to 54 on Saturday. Bring on the battery miles !!!

Here's another infobit to add complexity...

I was cruising along the highway today, in HV mode at a consistent speed with the system warmed up. The SOC was fixed at 72.5 percent. I actually rather surprised by it not climbing or dropping at all.

The estimate changed from 7.6 to 7.7 miles though.

Apparently, the system adjusts on-the-fly based on real-world data being collected while driving. That was a surprise. I had assumed (yah, I know) that the estimate was only calculated while recharging. But since the SOC didn't change and the miles value did, that doesn't appear to be the case.

That's how an estimate is described anyway. Just look at the fuel consumption. It one counts what's happening with one cylinder and truncates the measure of those teeny tiny squirts.

Heck, the temperature drops as you drive. That happens every time you leave the protection of a garage for the open road. That influences resistance within the battery itself as a result.

that's interesting. i think it also has to do with terrain and average speed?

  15. There are probably many factors involved, perhaps 50 or more, things that you might never consider, like: changing air pressure at just slightly different altitudes. Those 7 computers are looking at things we never thought of. Of course, the Toyota Engineers have. This is why questioning why we cannot keep it in EV when. WE want it is totally useless. Took a trip to Fairfield today. To: was 76 mpg w some EV From: was 65 mpg. Average the two = 70.5 mpg. That was with liberal use of all HVAC, including defrost, when needed. Doing 56 MPH on CC mostly interstate. My average with my Gen 2 was 54 MPG. That's a 16.5 MPG increase, in Winter. That is a incredible figure. Traveling Cruise all the way. I have no complaints.

  17. What is also surprising is when you are traveling in pure HV , You are not! With Prius purity is non-existent. The car is charging some EV and using it, unbeknownst to the driver. It's. Also constantly charging the HV portion of the battery, and using that. I was astonished how quickly the car goes from Low HV charge to Max HV. Charge, while under a constant load, (relatively). With CC.

  18. I have given up even trying that anymore, I wonder what the difference is, maybe the car just likes Boston. ( and Minn.)

  19. What was your trip mileage? The # that appears on the HSI after powering down.
