If one were to switch out the halogen projectors, does that involve baking the headlight?

yes, you need to bake or heat gun to soften up the rubber glue holding the casing together. its a enclosed unit. there are no holes big enough to fit the projectors through.

Thanks. That seems pretty involved. How different is a halogen projector from a HID projector?

The main difference is in the bowl of the projector. The optics are different between a HID bulb & a halogen.

What's the difference between JDM and USM? I like the Buzz Lightyear. (y)

Don't go MORIMOTO if you're just replacing the bulbs...they have the ground wire issue!

I just did it on my new 2012 PiP based on a PC recommendation and assuming that I'm getting what I pay for, but without doing my own research. Bad me.

The kit is great and the lights look absolutely fantastic, but the ground wire shadow is a BIG let down. The bulbs are of such high quality that trimming the tabs to get them to go in "upside down" would be difficult to do, at least beyond my craftsman skills. :(

Xenonsupply seems to have the ground wire issue addressed.

Glad you said something. I was on the fence between the 2.

Exactly what orientation should the ground wire be in to avoid 'ground wire shadow'?

The ground-return wire should NOT be at 12 o'clock when installed. The projector flips the image, causing the ground wire shadow to reflect onto the ground.

Instead, the ground-return wire should be at 6 o'clock installed. Supposedly, this puts the ground wire shadow on top, above the light cut off.

Sadly it looks like the Morimoto H11 bulbs (if this is an accurate photo of the product they're shipping currently) have the ground wire in the wrong position and need modification to prevent ground shadows:

Well, that's the pic from their website- I just got my Morimoto 4.3K bulbs yesterday, I installed them last night. I didn't note the position of the ground/return wire. If you can wait till tonight- I'll check tonight and report back on the current version they're shipping...

FYI- this has nothing to do with the ground/return wire shadow issue- but I thought I'd mention the 4.3K Morimoto bulbs are really quite bright and a nice white color- not blue- like the cheap 4.3K ebay bulbs. For $40 for the pair if they last- I'd say they were a good value, especially if you don't like the blue tinge many (supposedly 4.3K) HID's have.

I can wait. Not in much of a hurry. I am not motivated to work on cars in the winter

I got the 5K and they look great. A little purple on the fringes, but otherwise, they're very bright, except for the road immediately ahead of me :(.

The photo above is correct. In fact, the orange gasket/washer was a bit too thick for the Prius, making the full-lock turn very difficult. I replaced it with the gasket/washer from my original stock bulb.

    Any ground wire shadow issues?
