Just checked my Morimoto 4.3K bulbs I received yesterday- they are indeed as the photo in my post (#35) above. Seems they need to be modded for ground shadow elimination when used in a projector system where the beam is inverted (like in the Prius) :( oh well.... doesn't look too hard to mod the plastic base.

Yes, that's what I was referring to.

It's a shame it is not truly plug-and-play. The RFS should consider modding this before sending them out to their customers.

It's only an issue in applications with a projector lens since the lens inverts the image. Do all HID systems use projector lens systems?
They would have to make a bulb just for projector applications to correct the issue.

It's forecast to reach almost 60 deg here this upcoming weekend- I'll pull my Morimoto's and do the mod- I'll let y'all know how it works out....

Not all HID systems use projectors (example is Gen 2 Prius), but projector HID systems definitely look a lot better (example BMWs, Lexus, etc.).

Yeah, I can't believe NY will hit 60 deg in January (global warming in effect?).

Or, at minimum, disclose this to customers, especially those that called in for recommendations like I did.

    Are you returning your bulbs?
I'm not too happy with mine (Morimoto H11 4.3K) now that I see the ground/return is in the wrong position for projector systems.

I was looking at the (Morimoto H11 4.3K) bulb last night- even with trimming down the large top tab on the plug base- the ground/return will still not be in the optimum position for eliminating ground/return shadow.
With the 3 tab mounting system- there are slots to align the bulb at 0 deg, 120 deg and 240 deg. The original Morimoto design has the ground/return wire at 0 deg position- which is the exact opposite of where it should be for projector systems. So we trim the 0 deg tab and it can then be mounted at the 120 or 240 deg position- no way to mount it with the ground/return ending up at the 180 deg position which is desirable for ground/return shadow elimination.

    Not happy either...

Only if they come with a real weather-proof factory connector- not some lame nice person bare spade ends that you need to wrap with electrical tape.... that's the most unprofessional solution I've seen in a very long while- especially from a company that supposedly is big on quality...

I just sent an email to Retrofit Source describing the problem with their bulbs in the 2012 Prius- let's see how they respond. I hope they have a solution- because their 4.3K bulbs are really a nice bright white with hardly any blue cast at all.

I asked earlier and they told me that the bulbs are "industry standard" so as long as Toyota is following that standard, there should not be any issues with the ground wire shadow.

What does it mean when the #1 car company does something "different"? New standard? Exceptions? Who bends? Us the consumer, the car manufacturer, or the parts vendor?

This is just another application of an existing product. Obviously this application is not compatible, thus it shouldn't be sold as if it was.

I too would like a solution vs. going with another vendor. I really like the light output of these bulbs.

I hear great things about TRS, hoping they follow through.
