Nissan Leaf Depreciates Much Worse Than Average; Chevrolet Volt About Average

I'd expect both the Leaf and Volt to have poor depreciation related to the slew of battery issues.

 

Well that just didn't seem to be the case with the volt.

The reason for the leaf's depreciation is that the 2013 model is less expensive and better. CR didn't seem to want to really address that, because it would kill the point of the article. The 2013 leaf is likely to depreciate much slower than the 2011. The volt though is likely to have a better redesign that may be less expensive and should be leased if mileage requirements are not too high.

 

The local Toyota dealer has a 2011 Leaf SL with 8400 miles asking $22k....good luck once the new one comes out for $2500 more after all rebates

 

Yes especially since the 2013 SL changes are worth more than $2500 over the 2011, even if it were new.

 

Poor slob oughta have gone to a different dealership when he initially worked the deal for the lease. Several dealerships in CA were selling Leafs between $1,000 - $2,000 BELOW msrp right off the bat ... even prior to the 1st one delivered in the U.S. back in 2009. On top of that, CA had an instant rebate for $5000. Toss in the $7,500 Fed tax credit, and heck ... we found the Leaf to be a real bargain - even despite all its warts. The kind of buyers that pay high? ... dealers love to get their hands on 'em.

 

Where did you get $5k check from in CA? I guess you are the only one that received it, while everyone only got $2500 check.

 

When the leaf first went on sale, the check was indeed for $5k. The amount got lowered a year in or so.

 

Everyone ... right ... I must be lying ... just made it up for no reason



In the future, you may want to inquire differently ... for example, "hey ... I paid too much AND I only got $2,500 ... how come you got twice as much?" Had that been the case, I'd of been delighted to tell you the rebate history.
