In case you haven't seen it, here's a fun little calculator from our friends in Japan that helps you estimate your Plug-in commute/journey's impact (MPG/ CO2 etc). You'll need Chrome to use it.

Please let me know what you think!

Toyota should put the address look-up technology they use in this app in the NAV system on the Prius!

Pretty cool. I did the 20.3 miles simulated drive from Manhattan to a "Beach" near Rockaway park. The result is 71.1 mpg.

    20 miles.png

From the trips I have done in NYC, I have beaten that figure easily. :D

    22 and 42 miles.jpg

The first trip was an hour and one minute drive. The second one was an hour and 48 mins.

Erica if you ever need a Brand Ambassador let me know. You give me a PIP and I will blog, tweet and Facebook all the good experiences and help build momentum for the product.

If you have such a program let me know? Mercedes does it.

    Erica,

The simulator seems to be hard coded for 10.3 miles of EV regardless of the route's elevation change or travel speeds.

I was hoping for something closer to www.jurassictest.ch/GR/

Is there any chance of having the PlugIn Prius added to the Green Race site?

I was a bit surprized that you didn't make a statement about not including both fuels. :)

Huh? It said the journey used both EV and HV modes.

John, I thought it was designed to simulate EV Mode of 11 miles (EPA) and then the rest in HV mode, you're correct, it doesn't account for road types/speeds etc. Just a basic simulator. Hadn't seen the Green Race site, seems like only pure EVs are on it so far, I'll get a little more familiar before I see if it's something we should recommend we try to add ourselves to.

JMD, lol. Got it. Will keep it in mind. Thanks

ewxlt66: will let Japan office know. Thanks.

When I tried it, CO2 Emission did not display. Does it work for anyone else?

Did it spell out the kWh used(don't know, not working for me)?

If not, that leave a user an impression the electric was free.

It goes through a visual animation showing PiP plugging in first and then filling up with gasoline. Then it said 3 hours charge with 120v or 1.5 hours with 240v for 11 EV miles.

I thought the presentation is pretty much idiot-proof. I am using the Chrome browser as Erica indicated in her first post.

doesn't work for me very well. As a point B I typed several well known addresses and it indicates insufficient Goggle data.

It's a bummer that the mapping doesn't take elevation into account. My elevation profile looks like this and the website gives me the same mpg both ways (57mpg). In reality I get 47mpg(winter)-55mpg (summer) going uphill and 70mpg (winter)-90mpg (summer) going downhill in a non-PIP. The website said I would get 57mpg either way.

I decided to try my daily commute. They took me mostly interstate and added 4+ miles to the trip. It would take me 2hours or more to get to work going the route they chose. I think they should allow you to put in your normal route. This would give me a better idea of what sort of mileage compared to my Prius would get.

It didnt pick the shortest route for me either.. it said my drive to work from home was 15.6 miles, when in reality, I make it in about 13 miles. As a result, it said my fuel efficiency was 81.4.. but it should be 999 :D

I plotted a shorter drive and it only said:

"Your journey used only electric vehicle mode" and shows "-" for Fuel Efficiency. I think 999 would look better there. :)

It didn't show CO2 Emission for me either. I tried both a pure EV trip and a combined EV and HV trip.
