We don't have a trunk, so there is nothing to really grab onto in the hatch. You can install a hitch and then put a hitch rack, or a roof rack, or what I do is just fold the back seats flat and put the bikes in there. I can get 4 full sized bikes in there, but usually it is just my bike and my GF's bike which is very akwards because of the "girly shaped" handlebars that curve up and out. But it fits.

I installed a hitch and use it for a bike rack. It works well.

I had a hitch installed and the bike rack works great in it. The mounting was very easy as there are holes already available for mounting. All that had to be done was some cutting of the under skirt but that was very minor.

Ditto with the hitch and bike rack that mounts to the receiver hitch. Hitch as previously mentioned is a bolt on. Some very easy cutting is required. Bike rack from Amazon (for under$100) plugged into hitch. Actually, hitch came from Amazon too. Adapter was needed as Prius hitch is 1.5 inch (receiving hole size) and my bike rack that holds all four of our bikes is a 2 inch. Also, the rack I purchased drops down so the trunk can be opened with the bikes still attached. Very handy.

I have a trunk mounted bones rack by sarius. Love it! Easy to take on and off, and it's steady!

Saris, Thule and Yakima all make racks that strap on and work. You just dont want anything that puts weight on the spoiler. Stop by a bike shop, they have fit guides and probably experience putting them on a prius.

I too was in the market for something, a hatch rack was my thought, since its probl cheaper and a husewife can install it, untill I seen the pics posted( nice bike by the way), I can allready see the wife wondering why her rear wiper dont work anymore, Guess I'll have to go through the trouble and expense ti install a hitch and than get a rack, wonder if it could tow my boat?!!!!!!!!!!! unlikely

    Thanks

I just used my Saris rack again yesterday. On and off in two minutes once it is adjusted for your car. I usually don't ride my bike in the rain so I dont use the rear wiper while the rack is on. I very rarely use the rear wiper anyway, just RainX and the water blows right off.

oh I get that, it would not bother me a bit, and you do have a point you take your bikes out in nice weather anyhow, thou my concern is mostly personal, I can just see trouble coming my way. it is a very practical, less complicated and cheaper than a hitch plus rack
