I must be part of their target audience because I started LOL when he called it a gherkin and just stared at it. :)

Then again, I used to watch a lot of Beavis and Butthead when I was "growing up"......

My wife says I'm a great shifter and that she can never tell when I do it.

Honestly, I'm just glad we've reached a point where there is legitimate competition not only between products but also commercials.

I had an unplanned 'commercial' today taking a consultant to lunch. By accident, he has been without a car and my co-worker has been 'his ride'. But on Friday, my workday ended at noon (it had started at 3:30 AM) and he was interested in lunch.

So I cleaned off the passenger seat, we belted up and I headed for the best pizza place in Huntsville (Big Ed's). We parked and I pointed to the trip meter that had part of my morning commute: 11 miles, 56 MPG ... "Wow!"

"How does your mileage compare?" and I answered, "I'm running 52 MPG which is just a little over the EPA 50 MPG. Others who are more anal get even better."

After lunch, I reset the trip meter and we got some coffee and stopped by my hanger/shed to look at the plane. I fired up the 1 kW inverter and lit the lights. So we had a good look over N19WT, a work in progress.

I drove back to work and after one of my ordinary turns, noticed he'd 'tensed up.' So I explained "The Prius center of gravity is much lower than ordinary cars so I take turns a lot faster than I can in ordinary cars."

This helped him understand why the unexpected, turning, side-forces are so high when I'm driving our Prius. I went on "I once had to switch to our old Echo and nearly tipped it over when I drove it at Prius speed through a turn."

"Our first, yy 1.5L commuting Prius, a 2003 model, is shaped like a Ford Focus and it too gets 52 MPG. Both cars have 1 kW inverters and tow bars."

"We are driving in the 1.8L Prius that towed a 1,000 lb trailer with the 800 lbs of airplane 600 miles from Canton IL getting 28 MPG at 52-53 mph through a Nor'Easterner."

Someday, I would like to see a Prius owner's contest where we our own and share them on UTube. Unlike Toyota commercials, we would emphasize what we can do with our Prius. <grins>

So did you mimic Beavis or Butthead? And I'm sure you watched the new ones last year......I even used to own t-shirts with cornholio on them.

It was a funny commercial, though. I actually have seen 1 C-Max in a parking lot. Seen a couple V's and a couple Volt's around here. Lately, I've been behind a C coming home from work with PA tags.

The "unexpected commercial" might have been different than what you thought it was, that some Prius drivers are a bit nutty if they are driving so fast people have to hold on in turns.

And it's the wheels that will lose grip, introducing the passenger to power poles, other cars and drainage ditch flora and fauna well before the car turns over.

At least you were likely counter the common image and that Prius drivers can be wild and crazy guys too.

Weight reduction is more important, IMHO.

Very funny ad - a shooting buffalos (being ecologically unfriendly) kind of hybrid.

IMHO a "big shifter" on my *industrially designed* Prius would only be in the way - but It would be nice if the ring around the shifter or label in the center of the shifter to glowed green in the dark.
