Craziest thing happened this weekend. I've used the free lots at LAX a few times since buying my PIP but I've never plugged in because I felt guilty about hogging up a space. Well this weekend I was only going to be gone a few days and there was plenty of room on the inside of the lot where I could pull a cable through and still plug in. So I did. Because I really wanted to maximize my ride home when I returned. I plugged my car in on Friday and within 45 minutes, someone unplugged my car! I was sitting on the plane on the tarmac and couldn't do a thing about it. But the mad "unplugger" clearly returned before me, felt badly and plugged me back in! I thought I’d try and pay it forward and plug this Tesla Model S back in that someone had also unplugged. If this is your car, you’re welcome! :)

Interesting. In case you haven't heard, here's a heads-up: as of March 1, 2013, there will be no free parking in Lots 1 or 6 for EV vehicles. Bummer.

Yep, well aware and trying to get a few more "stays" at P1 before March 1!

Where you parked on the inside portion closest to the terminal? Backed in?

I thought it was weird your charging door was open, so I wanted to check and make sure you were charged. To my surprise you weren't so I left you plugged in.
I work at LAX so I try to make sure everyone is charged and the cords are wound up nicely.
I wish there was a way for me to move the fully charged cars to allow the others to charge.
I loved seeing that white Tesla Model S, such a great looking car. Nice photo!

Well THANK YOU very much. I very much appreciated it and just assumed that the schmuck who unplugged me got back from his trip before I did and just plugged me back in. The Tesla was gorgeous! My boss has a black one so I've spent a good bit of time in one and dealing with being an early adopter. It has some kinks to work out but it will be amazing when they get them all fixed. Thanks again!

Are the charging cables there part of the airport facilities or your own?

Great story, thanks. Not pluging in yet, but wife love's the second Prius, more power, better mph.

    P. S. See what Photo Block does to the Hummer plate, works great. No Photo tickets yet.

    knock, knock.

I hope the manufacturers will come up with a universal backlit symbol which indicates the car is fully charged, since this is probably going to occur more often.

I had intended to put a note on my car telling other people when my car would be fully charged and that they could unplug it. I'm not sure if that would have done any good as this other person clearly felt it was more important to charge their car rather than let mine keep charging. It's a bummer that people are not more respectful. :(

As much as I hate saying this, I have to agree with the statement that it was more important to charge his car than yours. You have gas engine in case you run out of battery. And not just some emergency gas engine, one which gets 50MPG ;)

The Tesla cars, Nissan LEAF, they might not make it back home, and count on the fact that certain facilities have chargers available.

Would be cool if 1 Charging Station had 2 cables, allowing it to charge 2 cars in sequence (and decide which one first based on if it has a gas engine, or if the battery is lower in 1 car than the other).

Don't get me wrong, it was rude, but I do understand why someone with a pure EV might do this.

I disagree. No one should be driving to LAX with no charge left and expecting to have an exclusive charger waiting for them when they arrive so they can "make it back home". That's just a person who isn't planning well and shouldn't have bought a pure EV. To be honest, he didn't have to unplug ANY car as there were other spots he could have plugged in. So this was basically a jerk who decided his charge was more important.

You don't know what the status of these parking spots were when he arrived (might have been the last spot). As for bad planning, your options are somewhat limited when it comes to charging. A 100% electric car owner sees the Prius as another gas car (heck, most people don't even know about the PiP variant), so yea, they will probably be pissed, and act like a jerk, just like most of us get pissed when we get ICEd, but at least it isn't a major issue.

While I agree that it sucks, and there is no need for people like that to be a jerk about this, his options were somewhat limited.

Can you give me exact directions to those spots? You enter in arrivals from what I see. Then what? Do you go inside the lot to get to the outside or how do you get there?

Correct. On the lower level (arrivals), you enter Lot P1 almost directly across from Southwest and then once you're inside, head towards the left and you'll probably see a number of electric car along the far wall. You can park there or drive around that wall to the uncovered outside part and then you'll see the chargers.

Not to take sides or anything.

I myself parked at LAX and looked for those charging stations once before and I noticed that people are not parking where they should be and using the charging stations.

Those charging stations are out side with parking in front of those stations.

I've seen MANY MANY ppl use the end of the inside parking and STEALING the charging station plugs that were ment to be used outside.

I personally think that is wrong. You felt bad taking the parking but yet you took that plug from the charging station for that specific parking spot that you felt bad for taking.

What good is that out door parking without that charging plug? Would you park there if theres no charging stations? I think not.

He or she might of parked at that spot where you took the charger from and used it on him/her where it should of been.

    Think about it.
