EV + HV does not equal the odometer

Apologies in advance, as I am new to PiP and to the forum. Looking though the forum, though, I have not seen an explanation for why the EV miles plus the HV miles do not add up to my odometer reading. (Of course, I do enjoy watching my EV/HV ratio increase.) Thanks.

The EV/HV ratio may have been reset since the odometer started at 0?

give us the numbers please. you have two ratio screens, 1&2 and can reset either of them if you want to. the odo can never be reset. you also have two trip odo's, a&b which can each be reset if you choose.

Possibly, but not to my knowledge. Are you saying that they SHOULD add up to the odometer (if not reset)? That would be an adequate answer to my question.

I am saying that yes, they should add up to the Odometer if either one of the two ratio screens have not been reset.

If they have been reset since the odometer started at 0, then they would not add up to the Odometer reading.

Thanks to biscotti and Paradox. I can figure it out from here, I'm sure. I know I'm looking at the correct odo (not trip), but perhaps the wrong ratio screen. Like I said, it's all new to me!

As long as on this screen (there are two of these, see it says 1 after EV driving ratio. There is a 1 and a 2) it has not been reset since the Odometer was at zero the EV miles and HV miles should add up to your odometer reading. If they do not then the ratios were reset.

I have kept my ratio 1 screen complete since buying the car and never reset it so mine add up (well, I think it is off by 1 or two miles since I reset it once home so it's off by whatever my odometer was at when I did the reset after getting home. Then, ratio 2 is the one I use to reset before trips or after fill-ups.

And the Odometer reading can be seen on two screens, shown below. It will say ODO before the total odometer reading, which of course cannot be reset.

Just fyi, these are just random pictures I have so the mileage I showed in the first pic ratio screens will not add up to the odometer readings I show later....

Those mile values are truncated, intentionally displayed as whole numbers.

The resulting apparent "error" is a subtle reminder to not take the results as absolutes, since the EV range you are presented with is just an estimate anyway. The reporting of EV-BOOST is just mixed into the HV results as well.

It's the KISS approach, which has served Toyota quite well in the past.

Ok I just went out to my car to confirm Brooke.

Sure enough, on my EV Driving Ratio screen when I added up my EV and HV miles I got two miles less than my current ODO reading since as I mentioned above, I had reset ratio 1 when I had 2 miles on the car after bringing it home. So if yours is not adding up, on either screen, they were reset after there was already miles on your odometer.

I also see about a 2 miles difference over about 1000 miles. I recorded the odometer and reset the EV ratio. I then logged the EV and HV every 100 miles or so...but did not record the odometer reading. Then after many readings I checked it against the odometer and found a 2 mile difference.

I thought that it must be purely a result of the EV ratio numbers being truncated...each one could be off by 0.5 or maybe even 0.99. So I checked them every few days for a couple of weeks and they continue to be off by 2 miles. Logic would say that I would win the trucation randomness lottery at least once and see only 1 mile delta...but this hasn't happened.

I appreciate all the input. I went to my car to check, and Lo and behold, on screen 1 the total is 14 miles fewer than the odo shows, so that had been reset at the dealership before I bought the car. (Screen 2 had been reset by me later.). So now at least I understand, and I know my starting point. Thanks!

    It never hurts to ask.

There are so many operational aspects at play with a plug-in hybrid, you don't want to miss out on the ownership experience by not being aware of something.

    Enjoy your new Prius.

    I just checked mine.

    EV+HV = 3,089
    Trip A = 3,089.8
    Odo = 3,090
