Here's one way to get car into neutral; Assuming you can get the Gen2 to boot up, apply the parking break, manually put car into Neutral. Before you turn off the car remove the large gray P CON MTR relay in the underhood fusebox (where jump terminal is) and car will now stay in neutral, even after you turn off power. This is good for "project cars" you need to roll around the shop etc. One NICE thing about Gen2's is the steering never locks.

Of course this neutral trick only works when you have fob etc. If not, you'll need Dolly and Jack to move the car.

    jtuchol,

At the car auction I work at here in CT, the keys stay in the car both before & after the car goes through the auction block so it can be moved around as needed. After the auction, unsold cars get moved & grouped together in new parking areas to get re-numbered for the following week's next auction (inventory number remains the same, but lot number gets changed in case it goes through a different lane the following week).

The sold cars also get moved to different staging areas for the transporter drivers (when they get hired & show up) to more easily find them for the purchasing dealers (who aren't usually there when the cars are loaded up). If the dealers are getting their cars loaded up the same day as the auction, they usually move the cars themselves then remove the keys & give them to the transporter driver. Of course, if they won't get loaded up for a few days & the buying dealer takes the keys, it makes it hard for us to clear the parking lanes & re-organize the lot for the next week's auction. If the dealer does that to us (keeps the keys), 2 days after the auction we just call one of our wreckers & they move the car to another location which may not be as easy to find.

We are trained at hiring time to leave the keys on the visor, but if the visor is missing or won't stay in the up position to put the keys on top of, then we are told to leave them somewhere obvious & visible. Some new hires have forgotten that rule & just pocketed the keys of every car they drove that day & then turned them all into the lane chief at the end of the auction (needless to say, that oversight really creates a mess when you try to re-match the keys to each car & there was a lane of over 300 cars & the individual may have driven 12 to 15 of them).

Some individual lane chiefs don't obey the rules either & they tell their drivers to leave the keys hanging out of the driver's door lock (in case any of the cars "auto lock" with the keys inside (I know our Priuses won't do that, but some other cars do). Other places some lane chiefs tell their drivers to leave the keys in (or some of the drivers just do on their own) are : on the driver's side car seat (but may slip down between the bottom cushion & the seat back), on top of the dashboard, in any open dash cubby hole, in a cup holder (their may be more than just a few), inside the console, in the inside door handle, in the glove box, on the floor, on the floor UNDER the seat, etc. So sometimes when we need to move a car, it can be a real pain trying to locate where the previous driver decided to place the key.

Unless I'm mistaken, it sounds like your transport driver delivered the Prius to you already (because you implied you have it already & can't move it around), so what I'd like to know is how did the transport driver get your Prius on his truck if he didn't have the key(s) for it? I'm thinking it sounds like HE lost your key(s) on you & not the auction house (unless I'm mis-interpretting something). There have been accusations of transport drivers siphoning fuel out of the cars they deliver TO the auction (to re-sell it @ around $3 per gallon on the "black market"), so maybe some transport drivers are friends with locksmith-type people & get a cut for referring auction car buyers of "keyless" cars to their "cheaper-than-normal" locksmith friends. Maybe not.

The story that I got we hiered a shipper off of the "board" he said that he went to the auction ( copart) and no keys where there and he is going to send us a bill for wasting his time, In his broken english, rant and raved and left the car there we ended up using co-part transport service. he brought the car here and slid it off the back of transport truck. this car from the time of the auction had 2 keys on the zip tie when it was sold, when we got the car here it had the zip tie laying on the seat zipped back up. I have been through this car with a fine tooth comb "no keys" I found a lock smith back here that says he can program "used keys" to work and cut new keys for the door according to vin. I know for a fact that there is a good size "black market" for these keys, just look at e-bay! I am going to call hartford and ask again, but I think these are long gone in someone's pocket.
