I've been burned by banks, etc sending 1099's well into late Feb and even one in mid March in 2011 (had to amend my 1040 after that  ), so I don't file till the end of March or beginning of April now anyway.

Can we get a sticky on this thread till tax season is over?

The paper version of 8936 posted on 1/21. Guess you all are waiting for the e-file version.

OK, but what Rainking was addressing was the delay in the IRS accepting the form, rather than the availability of the form itself. Bummer.:(
TurboTax let me fill in the worksheet, which automatically transfers the required info to Form 8936. I haven't attempted to file yet, so is that when it would tell me the form isn't available?
It's not of major concern to me, as I use a tax professional. I get TurboTax just to play around with and see how close I can get to what the pro comes up with.;)

i'm curious, how far off has it been for you historically? does it even make sense for you to pay the pro anymore?
if you try to file now, it will tell you that the form will not become available for e-filing until 2/7. this is different from the 1/31 "delay" the IRS introduced this year which prevented you from filing before 1/31.

With TurboTax I'm usually pretty close, and in fact, my CPA has suggested that I could do it myself. But I have a small business along with investments, and am comfortable having him prepare the returns. He doesn't charge me a lot, and half of that is a business writeoff the next year. This year the reporting of changing of cars used in the business is confusing, as the options in the forms don't include selling the previous car outright, as I did, but only trading it in, giving it away, or a "like exchange." He'll know what to do with it, and that's worth it to me.:)

I have been using H&R Block's programs for years but they don't have the form yet to claim the $2,500 tax credit for the PIP? Anyone else waiting?

As you can see above, apparently they'll never have it.

For anyone else who isn't a procrastinator like me, there is no point in doing your taxes for the $2500 credit right now. I finished my taxes a couple weeks ago and it said I needed to wait until 2/07 for the electronic form. I revisited my taxes yesterday and true to their word, the form was available. Right before I was about to send, it says the IRS will not accept e-file for the electronic form. Anyone else find that kinda counter productive? Anyway, I was about to print out my taxes and mail it in with a stamp when I received road block number 3. The IRS will not process your refund for the credit until March. Back to the waiting game.

I suspect some of these problems are due to a certain party willing to push us over the fiscal "cliff" (how happy I am to no longer have to hear about that crap).

It's not over yet. The debt ceiling is coming back in a few weeks. We never eliminated the spending problem so it will need to be raised again with another game of chicken

I used turbotax and I had to print my forms and mail it via snail mail. First time in a long time I didn't e-file. Turbotax had an estimated of mid March before I get my refund.
