The wife went from all in town 13 mpg best in her 2001 3.3 Chrysler Voyager to high 48 to low 50s in her new 2011 (bought Jan 13, 12) and when gas is $4.00 a gallon the mpg difference actually PAYS for the lease ($280) payments 100%! We can't hardly wait until we owe it whole and just pocket the difference! I am kind of looking for a good used Prius to use as my U-Ship (A & E Shipping Wars) delivery 95 Neon. The neon gets a very decent 46 mpg at 55, but the wifes car got a bit over 60 at the same speed. The biggest part of the costs for my U-Ship costs are the fuel usage.

Indeed it is, and I'm sure Prius sales are soaring right now :). Still though, it may not be the norm to have the gas that high and as I stated in the previous posts, people in Europe have been paying $8-9 per gallon of gas for years. And when $4.00 does become the norm, people will be searching for more fuel efficient vehicles (heck, they already are). As I said before, in Scotland there were hardly any pickup trucks driving around (I think that I saw 2 maybe the entire trip). I look at the roads here and not only are they congested with vehicles, but half are pickups and land yachts. If there is anything that will become of higher gas though, it will be a greater push for fuel efficiency. In that regard I am all for gas increasing to $10/gal.

PS: I am by no means a tree hugger, though that last comment may sound like it. I would like buy a vehicle that gets 100mpg in my lifetime (w/o electricity). I actually like the way electric is going too, I just will wait to buy one that can go 300,000 miles before replacing the battery and can go 200 miles per charge (and that doesn't cost a small fortune to buy :p).

Lol I hear ya, I agree with most of that and also am not a tree hugger. I am trying to level the field, my thinking is that buying the prius offsets the GMC Sierra and the Early Bronco. We just got back from Disneyland and what would normally be a half tank in the GMC (26 gallon tank) was just over 2 gallons in the prius. Love this car!!

I'm still trying to figure out why prices in Vegas went up 35 cents or more in less than two weeks. We were actually down to $2.99 at the "big name" stations and as low as $2.80 at the "generic" stations.

Believe me - we feel your pain.
Oahu, Hawaii - $4.33 9/10 last time I filled up. Hate to see what it looks like on the neighbor islands.

Yep - in the year I've owned my C2 - average gas price according to Fuelly has been $4.15 $4.17. IIRC - price went under $4.00 once since I bought the car. For the '97 Prizm - average price has been $4.26 - guess it's cause I've been tracking it less than a year on Fuelly.

I haven't seen a $2.99 in a LOOOOOOOONG time here in Florida. We're at 3.49 right now. I'd have to say the last time it was under $3 here was last summer?

$3.40 would be awesome, we are still hovering around $4.00 here in SoCal
