When (if ever) did you stop worrying about getting the best mileage for each trip and just drive reasonably?

I'm that way most of the time - hence my relatively low average MPG on Fuelly.

It seems to me, wanting to save on gas will never go away. However, I often just let the computer, cruise control, echo mode, have the ball. When I'm able to improve on that, sometimes I take manual control. In manual control, I really tend to drive the best, looking way ahead to maximize breaking, keeping as much room as possible in front of me, monitoring rear so as to not annoy the tailgaters. LOL! I enjoy pulse and glide and I like the challenge of placing my Prius into "true glide mode".
So I just enjoy the whole thing, weird as it sounds. It's not laborious and if it was I wouldn't do it. It's challenging, competitive, makes me focus on driving. If I need to veg, that's fine too.

Over 2 years ago, a couple of months after I got the car.

I still do several things like make most of my stops where the braking just uses regen and run moderately high tire pressure but I don't pulse and glide or obstruct traffic.

I enjoy reading about different econo driving techniques more than I enjoy doing them.:D There are useful things to be learned from the hardcore econo folk, even if you don't want to completely drive like one.

    That's what they all say:ROFLMAO:

As long as you are going to be addicted to something, that's a good choice.

Haha Perhaps you're right. It's KILLING ME that my Fuelly avg is hovering at 43.9. I'm hypermiling my butt off trying to get it to 44. I am the annoying guy in the slow lane.

Haha. If they did, they'd quickly devolve into MPG glory stories.

I only tried for about the first week I had the car. I found that my commute mpg often comes out better when I'm not paying attention to it and striving to break my records. If I try or don't try, I still do mid 50's on average. Trying gives me something to do, but not trying keeps me from getting disappointed.

The only thing I pay attention to is the per tank average (I reset the trip every fillup and fillup at very near the same "empty" blip each time).

I get trash MPG compared to many here though but I blame my cold climate and lots of hilly, rural highway travel.

I never drove unreasonably, but I have always driven tiny station wagons to get good gas mileage, at this moment in time, this is as frugal as a station wagon gets. My last Toyota wagon (a 1989 Corolla All-Trac) is still on the road, being used by a beginning driver in Elko NV. I suspect that he will use up the third clutch. With 103 HP and AWD, it was quite a bit slower than my Prius v.

As long as I'm getting 50+ mpg (calculated), I tend to not try any harder. My avg has been bouncing around 50 - 54 mpg and I'm happy with that.

Edit: To answer the OP's question - as soon as I acclimated to get at least EPA avg.

:DAs a newby Prius owner, three weeks tomorrow, I find it natural to drive my Prius conservatively. It's both fun and challenging to maximize the fuel mileage. Easy to do when driving alone, I might not be able to endure the wrath of less enthusiastic passengers. Once I get my factory charge cable back from EVSE Upgrade in CA, which I'll use at work, my daily commute should be all (almost) EV mode. That's my plan.

Never, I piss people off all the time, especially the aggressive drivers here in Phoenix, by maximizing my MPG lol. I love keeping my MPG between 60 and 70...

When did you stop worrying about getting the best mileage for each trip?

Whenever I'm in a hurry to get somewhere. When I'm not pressed for time, I worry about getting better mileage again.
