I DID search before posting and found only one thread on this issue and it was under TSB's and it concerned 2005 model year and never answered my main question -- I thought about posting to that thread, but since it was in the TSB section, decided to start a new post (hope that decision is correct).

For those who want to see the old thread http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CEEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fpriuschat.com%2Fthreads%2Fmissing-roof-molding.19440%2F&ei=0hUcUdnMM-TQiwKl1IG4Cg&usg=AFQjCNEnVFuXpgtKzE10M9vKHlsn18xTJA&bvm=bv.42452523,d.cGE

Anyway, I had a meeting early today and had to take some VIPS around. Cleaned interior of car yesterday, but my very muddy car would only get dirty again driving to town, so opted for a local car wash at 7:30 a.m. today.

Went through wash and noticed passenger side black rubber roof molding was half off. I pressed it back and went on my way. Would it hurt anything if I pull both moldings out, clean the channels and then re-install using a small bead of GE Silcone II?

Just curious have you ever applied a conditioner to the moulding?

I put ArmorAll on in September, for the first time....did all the rubber around doors, hatch, engine compartment. Plan to make it a yearly thing.

Make it more than that. You waited for 3 years...all the damage is done by then especially if its not garaged. You have brutal winters that turn rubber hard as a rock. The rubber is dried up thats why its falling off.
I try to get mine at least once a month.

Black magic Protectant is superior to Armorall. And mice don't like it.

Yeah, I know I was remiss in treating, but seriously, all the door and hatch and engine rubber was very pliable in September. The top molding was not as "flexie" but I don't think it is supposed to be....

No way I can get to it once a month, it took me about 2.5 hours in September. I'll try to find Black Magic.

And, as a thought, since you mentioned treating, I was wondering....maybe my treating it is what CAUSED it come loose?

Maybe. Not sure how soaked in Armorall your getting it but pretty sure its gotten a little brittle after 3 years.

Ed, for sure, I was very bad, and I am sure it is much more brittle than if I had behaved and treated from the beginning, but I will beg ignorance. I really didn't know about treating it. But, hey, better late than never??

Thanks again for the Black Magic tip. I asked the guys at NAPA and they said Silicone spray or ArmorAll....so that is what I got in September. I have to go into sometime in the next day or so to pick up a part on order, so I will ask them about getting some "Magic."
