Hello, new to the forum so I hope this post isn't redundant. I'm in the market for a new prius c and it will be my first car purchase, so I'm a bit nervous. While looking around at local dealers I couldn't help but notice that the 2012 models outnumbered the new 2013 models 5:1. It's nearly march, why are there so many 2012's still on the lots? There isn't any old model lift backs or v's still out there.

Also, is it wrong to expect a discount if I were to purchase a 2012 model?

    Thanks for any thoughts!

To me, it's a no-brainer. Get the 2012. The MSRP of the 2013 is $130 more and for that you get a fake leather steering wheel cover. Worse, the 2012s are being discounted. How much do you want to pay for the fake leather steering wheel cover?

The Toyota website implies this is only on the Four.

Depending how much discount u can get on the 2012, try to go with the 2013. It will be a plus when u sell the car later.

If you can get enough off the 2012, then go with that.

Go for a discount on the 2012. Haggle. Bring that price down. Then take good care of your c, keep the car a long time and don't worry about the trade in value. :)

Thanks for all the responses! But I'm afraid that I mistitled the thread in my haste to find answers. Oops. Title should have been "2012/13 question", because in my area there are so few 13's available that I HAVE to get a 12. I'm wondering why there are so many 12's still on the lot?

Wait! I have some more questions!

    Would 20,800 be a fair price to offer for a 2012 c3?

After the three year complimentary entune service is up, and I don't extend the subscription, will the touch screen still work as a controller for my iPod?

How big is that open shelf on the passenger side. Would it fit an iPad mini?

I'm worried of hidden costs to entune, and wonder if I should go for the c2, and buy an iPad with my savings.

    All thoughts are appreciated!

I paid 22,858 off the lot for my 2012 c4 1 month ago.

    Yes

    Yes

Entune only affects data options. You can still use the bluetooth from your phone for pandora if you need it. Your maps will still work.

Step one is to read through Car Buying Guide for New and Used Vehicles | CarBuyingtips.com.
If you are financing the car Step two is to shop around for the financing.
Step three wander around the lots to look & test drive until you decide what you want.
Step four contact the Internet Sales Dept. through the dealer websites and negotiate your deal.

The model year begins and ends at different times for different cars. Once production starts it will be a month or two before the first load arrives. California gets them first.

Unless there is a major redesign you'll find the new model year has a price increase for basically the same car. Toyota, Toyota Financial, and the Region in some combination will have incentives on the old year while selling prices will be close to MSRP on the new year. Enjoy the savings on the 2012. If you hold the car long enough it won't matter to anyone & you still saved the money.

Is Entune, Safety Connect, sat radio worth the subscription? It all depends on you. The only time I listen to the sat radio is when Sirius/XM turns it on for free. I subscribe to SC because I like the idea of having the connection in the car. It makes it much easier to get help (for you or someone else) than placing a call.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I just got off the phone with the dealer and I'm getting a 2012 prius c3 (no extras) in moonglow for 20,836 (ttl not included). They're bringing it in from another dealer for free and I can pick it up on Saturday. They're even letting me bring my dog with me! Plus I get 6 year/2.74% financing. I think I got a fair deal.

So picked up the car and we LOVE it!
Only averaged 41 mpg on the long drive home so we'll have some learning to do before we know how to drive it responsibly. :)

However, I'm trying to set up entune right now, I've got the app, registered, and verified my email, and now I need to select which system i have by selecting which car I drive in a drop down menu on the toyota website but prius c isn't listed. Anyone run into this problem?

is there any any major mechanical , cosmetic, or suspension difference between the 2012 year model and the 2013 year model?or is it just the year?

The 2013 models appear to have 12V terminals under the hood for jump starting to save you from having to access the battery directly (it's under the rear seat) and also the 2013 C4 has a Softex steering wheel. That's all I've seen so far.
